Concealed element replacement

Hi lads,

Element in my boiler has died - one of them anyway so she's a bit hard to bring to the boil. It's a concealed type as per the photos - qualtex mis884 and looks like it's welded it glued on. How does one go about replacing these?

kettle element on the side it will be. Anyone able to suggest a good one?

A lot of people put elements from tesco budget kettles £5 in their plastic buckets but if your is double skinned might not be possible. Your unlucky having that go mate. Have you done a continuity test? I picked up a 40l buffalo for about £80 so might be worth keeping an eye out. Have seen the 30l tea urns as low as £50.

The custom modified thermopot that I got from Angel Homebrew has an element fitted into a double-skin. This is how he did it:

It's fine as long as you use a real kettle lead and not something like a computer monitor lead plus your wall sockets and house wiring are rated way higher than the current drawn by a kettle (10A at 2.4kW or 12.5A at 3kW). An insulated pot should only need about 1.6kW to maintain a 5 gallon rolling boil so you can always turn it down when the boil is reached using an external control box that sits between the boiler and the wall socket.

🤣🤣 I’ve got karlstein type kettle 50l with two elements 1500 and 1800 .1800 failed burned out with big hole in the middle,I guess I can still cook small batches with 1500 but would like to fix it .
Do you still remember where did you buy that element from, I want to connect it to 1500 that I could control them through the controller

Sure thing mate. I did the same thing with mine. I've got the smaller element and the new one connected which must come in a bees dick under 13A. I then have a voltage controller to get some temperature control for the boil.
