After years of driving small, fast German cars; Audi's mainly, and putting captain Kirk miles on them (Latest is a 64 plate I've had from new, just about to tick over 170k miles), circumstances have changed. Yearly milage will be significantly dropping due to a promotion, and different type of work. The kids are both getting taller and moan like hell about the lack of space in the back. So, it's sensible car time. It's a company car, so I'm limited by what's available in my group, or below, and none of the German estates excite me enough to pay the company car / fuel card jealousy tax on them, so I'm thinking of dropping down a band, getting a 1.5dci Kadjar that ticks all the practically boxes, is low on P11d value and emissions and thus lowers my tax, and as a bonus I get to pocket the difference in rental. Been to sit in one today, really impressed. Yet to drive one, but test drive booked.

Any actual owners in here who can share their experiences?
 
Not with Kadjar, but with Renault. I had a Scenic once. This was a nice car, comfortable, handy, all backseats could be taken out, high seats.

But the technical design had its flaws. I had the following problems with it:
  • In it second year, the pneumatic suspension gave out (probably due to too many speed bumps)
  • In its fourth year, a kind of sleeper at the rear wheels was rusted
  • My mechanic (who had had a Renault franchise) said that it was necessary to make sure that the timing belt was replaced around 100000 km
  • At the front wheel, there was a system which connected the axle from the wheel and drive with a loose connection. One day, this was worn out, and I could not get traction any more. It took three days for my mechanic to find this and repair it.
  • And lastly, the drive of the alternator gave up. After this we went back to VW.
It was a nice car, but I had less trouble with my first car which was a secondhand VW Golf from 1985 or thereabout.
 
I guess being a company car, any issues that there might be with realibility and the cost of fixing it is covered (not that I think modern Renaults are as bad as some of the ones from years ago)

I can recommend Nissan quashqai. .had 3. Latest engine 1.6 digt petrol..very quick comfy.
The Kadjar is pretty much the same car as the Qashqai anyway, Nissan and Renault have a shared platform thing.

I have the petrol Kadjar. I like it, I like the stereo etc and it drives pretty well (but not as good as the Honda Civic we inherited when my uncle died). I believe the Kadjar was recently given the accolade of the car that keeps its value best or something too.

I drove a kadjar as a hire car for 5 or so days. I have a cx-5 - 2013 model - the kadjar was the 130ps diesel - a very stylish interior, not a bad car. dislikes : lack of poke compared to 150ps cx-5. also no random song choice on infotainment system, plus hard to hit the touchscreen controls on occasion when driving over bad roads. I think the kadjar has more headroom that the Qashqai (which I ruled out because my head brushed the headlining) they do share the same platform and engines. I've also driver the x-trail 7 seater, whilst I loved the tech the 130ps engine in that was underpowered imo. The kadjar in sex toy red looks particularly expensive without being so.

If you had the 2013 model, it’ll be a different entertainment system to the current model - I had the same complaints about my 2013 Captur but my Kadjar has a different system.

Edit - I’m a numpty it was your CX-5 that is the 2013 model. Point still stands though as I’ve had 2013 and 2016 Renaults and the entertainment system improved dramatically between the 2.

I've had a test drive of the new Volvo V60 as part of a promotional thing.
It's astonishing.
What an incredible piece of engineering. In D3 guise, emissions are incredibly low for tax purposes, yet it's still got some poke.
Interior is out of this world


If you can wait till end of summer, then it should be right up there with anything from mercedes or audi
 
We almost bought a Kadjar last month but ended up going for a smaller car (honda jazz) for more day to day practicality and a bit cheaper. The Renault drove very nicely and had plenty room.
 
The dole wallahs down our road have got a Renault Cadger. If its owt like the 2 Scenics I've had the timing belt needs seeing to not an inch after the specified mileage or it WILL blow the engine up. BOOOOM!! lol.

same with the cx-5 - the new one had an improved infotainment system but now comes with electronic parking brake but is more refined and heavier than my car. with no engine upgrade for the 150 2.2. diesel the new cx-5 is slower and thirstier than the original, progress eh?
 
I love old french cars. I'd never buy a new or recent one.

Unless it was Japanese. Built to Japanese standards.

Japanese is best. Wasn't without good reason they killed the British motorcycle industry in the 60s within a year or two. Still the best by a big margin and not just with motorbikes.
 
The wife has just got a brand new Captur 1.5 dCi. Loves it. This post probably doesn’t help in the slightest.
 
Make sure it gets a thrashing now and then to burn the **** off the dpf or you'll get problems.

It will be a company lease, so maintenance won't be my responsibility, but I do lots of motorway long runs so hopefully the dpf will regularly get up to working temperature for long periods.

Got a test drive booked next week....
