I'd just go with it as it is. Then if you think it needs more you can adjust next time you brew.
Personally I find it tasty enough with the hops supplied. Just my opinion though

Cheers. Tom

I brewed this short to 21 liters towards the end of February and bottled mid March using the Free Malt Enhancer 1.2kg from Mangrove Jack.

I have to say that this is one of the most successful kits I have done. Very fresh, clean tasting IPA and unmistakably Pink Grapefruit upfront taste without being overpowering. Have started out with all grain now, but will be brewing this one again. Can't wait for some good weather and a barbecue to share this one with some friends.

Hello,

A little update on my brew. I add an extra 50g Columbus hops, the only ones I have.

I had 3 weeks in FV and the bottled and they have now had 2 weeks in bottle under heat so intend to take the heat away Monday and leave alone for a couple of weeks. I have a couple of bottles in clear glass, it appears to be an bright / strong orange colour. It's is settling. Does the colour match others brews? Regards

I have just tried one. Wouldnt say it was orange, but mine is really clear, I did use finings though and when I added the hops I used a muslin bag. Only reason I tried one was because when I put in the garage after two weeks, I cold already see that it had cleared and you could see sediment in the bottom. Was really to check the carbonation. Its delicious

I just started this kit 2 days ago, and it's just started to bubble in the airlock. So, in every ones opinion it needs more hops that the 50g that it came with.
If I double up both the simcoe & cascade will this be enough ? or should I go for more. This is my first IPA so I haven't a clue what it needs.

I didnt add anything extra. added the hops in a muslin bag and used spray malt. For me the hops that came with are fine. All round I'm happy

Thanks guys, I'll do it as it comes.
From what I have read, I'll be doing it again anyway, perhaps I might tweak it then.

Hello,

I can now give you my review of my grapefruit IPA, happy days.

I have now waited long enough after 2 weeks of cooling the bottles. I stuck to the instructions in the main although I added a week to the FV stage.

I also added 50g of Columbus hops in addition the pack amount which has made it nice and hoppy but the grapefruit is a little hidden.

This is my best brew so far with 2 cwtch and a golden stag prior.

I feel i have achieved and have a good beer and have bought another kit so will try without the additional hops.

I also picked up the mangrove simcoe ipa to try from HomeBrew Dave in Worcester.

I will definitely be sticking with mangrove jack kits for a while but feel the need to go back to cwtch sometime soon as we have unfinished business.

Cheers and will be drinking my grapefruit Ipa for the next couple of months.

Im enjoying mine too. I added nothing extra.

I tasted a tangerine ipa in brewdog yesterday, very nice, I may give that one a try next.

Does this kit actually contain some sort of grapefruit extract, or is the "grapefruit" just referring to the simcoe/cascade citrussy hop aroma?
Personally I've never liked beers with something extra added - apricot, raspberry (yes, I know the Belgies like them), chocolate, coriander, chilli ... many bottles poured down the plughole.

It does have grapefruit extract in, supposed to be like Elvis juice

Put this kit on 2 days ago and it is just getting going.

Struggled getting it down to pitching temperature so it sat in my bathtub filled with cold water for about 4 hours :)

Currently under the stairs with the Dyson fan blasting at it and keeping around 22 degrees.

Really excited about this one but a little disappointed that my OG was 1046. Was expecting this one to turn out a little stronger. Tried all the advice about stirring, checking hydrometer etc.

Did you do anything different to the instructions? Mine came out about 152 using 1kgspraymalt rather than glucose. Really easy brew and fermented in less than a week. Was pretty clear after another 2 weeks carbonation. Had it around 22-24c for two weeks in FV

Bottled this two days ago. I used youngs beer finings and it was very clear. Tried a sample and was very impressed. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. ABV came out at 5.2% which I'm quite happy with!

I cracked open the first bottle a couple of days ago. They were a few days short of 2 months old.
Been kept at 18C all this time except for the last 3 days in the fridge.
My opinion is "Crystal clear, sediment well compacted, nice taste with no long term bitterness, Cascade/grapefruit on the burp".
I personally would like it better with more dry hops, so I'll add 50% more to the next brew, 8.5/10

EDIT: I'm going to dose the finished brew next time with Cascade Aroma oil @ 2ml per 10L instead of adding more dry hops and see how that tastes.

Bottled this up last night.
Made it up with Mangrove Jacks 1.2 kg lme.
SG was 1.046
Bubbled solidly for two weeks.
Transferred it to a secondary adding 200g dextrose sugar, the kit hops (25g simcoe and 25g cascade) and 50g Amarillo hops i wanted to use up.
Then the bubbling stopped, there was a bit of foam on top so i wasn't too worried by this.
Left it for another 11 days (i meant to only leave it for 7 but i wasn't well at weekend so couldn't be bothered bottling).
Bottled it up last night, final gravity was 1.011 which seems a little high.

Tasted the tester jar, you can definitely taste the grapefruit but i'm not certain it's not gone bad, hopefully conditioning will sort it out.
I'll try a bottle in three weeks or so.

Update on this.
Drank a couple of bottles of this on sunday; and i'm very impressed.

The lady in the homebrew shop recommended 500g cane sugar and 500g spraymalt. She was right. My best ever kit beer. I'll be checking out more of those Mangrove Jack's pouches if this is anything to go by.

I've just cracked open a bottle of this. I bottled it just over a week ago, and couldn't wait to try it - but it tastes quite bitter (almost pithy).

Hopefully, being left a bit longer to condition properly should sort this out.

I need more patience!

This is my first ever brew, super excited to see how it comes out. Sticking to the instructions.
Used LME, it's in the FermZilla @ 21C ish and 10 psi.
Been in for 4 days and we are at 1032.
