Hi everyone. I’m new to all grain brewing and watched a YouTube video which showed a guy sparging by simply pouring hot water into the mash with a jug, stirring it with a spoon, leaving it for a few minutes, then draining it. He called this batch sparging.

Is this method as good as using a spray bar and does anyone else use this method? It would make my set up easier.

Thanks all.

I'm a batch sparger. Works like a charm for me and a lot less faffing about.

After my 1hr mash, I drain the wort off into my kettle then refill the mash tun with 70-80C water and leave it for 15mins. Then drain that into the kettle with the first runnings and boil.

I mash in a bag in a coolbox.

Thank you everyone for the replies. And thank you Simon for the link. Sometimes plain English is so much more helpful than some of the complicated jargon. This site is great for people like me who just need some simple old plain English and simple solutions.
