I've had a few glasses of Batemans Gold over the past few months and every time I've tasted it I've thought "That's better than nice!"

It is a very pale ale that has a tremendously strong flavour of grapefruit.

The nearest I have ever come to duplicating the taste is with a Maris Otter and Citra SMASH but that has a more "citrous" than "grapefruit" flavour.

If anyone has got a recipe or brewed an AG light beer that tastes of grapefruit I would like it for my Autumn brews.

Thanks for that.

I live in hope that someone will have at least got the "grapefruit taste". The only time it's happened to me is when I've pitched the yeast at too high a temperature; and it then disappeared with a couple of weeks on the shelves!

Chinook and Cascade most certainly brings on the grapefruit and personally I love it. Bitter with Chinook then add generous helpings of both at the end of the boil. That's what I'll be doing this weekend with added Amarillo for even more flavour.

I'm off to a do at the brewery tonight, so if I get the chance to meet any of the brewing staff, I'll have a cheeky ask! It's usually more sales guys but you never know.

How did it go?

I'll be at The Woolpack in Wainfleet next Monday for a Meeting.

If you care to whisper your findings in my ear then please look for the big fat bloke with a beard who will be following the motto "If you can't fight, wear a big hat!" :thumb:

It was a great night, and I took full advantage of the free beer, including gold.acheers.

I didn't meet any of the brewing staff I'm afraid. Got back to my house near midnight, so I fear I have used up my blokes night tokens for a while, so won't be able to join you for a drink, in afraid, as it's a good 40 mins to Wainfleet from my house. Would be great to meet up sometime .

Agreed. If you are ever in Skegness please PM me for the address and drop in.

Please bring along any SWMBO who isn't in the least bit interested in brewing so that, whilst we discuss matters of a serious nature, she can commiserate with a like minded person. :thumb:

BTW, it will possibly help if your own SWMBO can drive you back home! :laugh8:

BrewersFriend have what looks to be a good looking AG Recipe described as a Cascade/Chinook American IPA so I may give that a whirl this Autumn. I intend to reduce the grain bill because the ABV of >7% is much too high for me.

The recipe also has a 7 day Dry Hop with the Cascade and Chinook so it may very well do the job if I can't find a cloned recipe! :thumb:
