Here's my first saison and its recipe

FERMENTABLES:
4.6 kg - United Kingdom - Maris Otter Pale (83.6%)
450 g - American - Caramel / Crystal 60L (8.2%)
450 g - German - Melanoidin (8.2%)

HOPS:
7 g - El Dorado, Boil for 60 min

7 g - El Dorado, Boil for 30 min
19 g - El Dorado, Use: Boil for 5 min
28.3 g - El Dorado, Use: Dry Hop for 7 days

OTHER INGREDIENTS:
28.5 g - Elderflower, Time: 5 min, Use: Boil
34 g - Elderflower (steeped in 4cups boiling water for 5 min), dry hop

YEAST
Lallemand saison yeast

Turned out really nice. Dry, fizzy, with lovely Saison notes and subtle elderflower notes. Very pleased with this one.

Only thing is that I tweaked my kit a bit and exceeded my OG resulting in a 6.7% beer instead of the original 5ish%. But it did finally give me a decent efficiency :)

If you ever want a really good commercial example to compare against look out for “Printemps” by Unity brewing. A great elderflower Saison.

Still time to enter it into the July competition :)

I am partial to a saison :beer1:
Mine will be coming soon. It might even be posted tomorrow, I wasn’t well before I came off work on holiday and only got home today.

Edit: for some reason I thought I was in the competition thread. To the OP, this is interesting. Not saison related, but I’m quite interested in using elderflower in beer. I’ve always been a big fan of Williams Bros Birds & Bees, and this week I’ve been in Aviemore drinking a lot of Cairngorm Trade Winds. Both use elderflower and was thinking of making something similar - maybe a pale with cascade and elderflower.
