Hi all.
My 1st brew is happening this weekend, with a bag brew.
My ingredients are as follows,
25kg pale malt .
100g halkertau hops.
100g aramis hops.
100 g opal hops
100g hersbucker hops
Yeast us o5 safale .
I have an electrim boiler arriving tomorrow.
Can anyone come up with a 5 gallon brew for me please, with these ingredients.
Thanks.
Dave

How much yeast do you have? One sachet should be fine for a regular brew, but if you're going into >8º territory, 2 sachets may be wise.
What Hallertauer is it by the way?
A SMaSH might be interesting.

Greg Hughes has some single-hop recipes in his book Home Brew Beer. The grain bills are quite basic: pale ale with a handful of crystal. Nothing you couldn't do. Best way to tweak your procedures and get a good impression of a hop.

Hi Gerrit.
The yeast is us 05 yeast.
Cheers

Bit tricky without knowing the bitterness of your hops.....

4.5 kg malt should give you og around 1.045 - 1.050 in batch that size, potentially a beer of around 4.5%.

Opal sounds like a lovely hop, perhaps do a smash as suggested above to showcase it with additions at 60, 10, 5 mins + allow some to steep as it cools. Depends on what IBUs and flavours you are looking for.

I'd be inclined to ferment at the cooler end of the yeasts range if you have temperature control for a cleaner profile. Good luck!

Here 's something:

Layout is a bit bad, but wouldn't let me print properly. Hop bill is suited to finish 100 grams and end up around 40 IBU, bitterish but not obnoxious. Grain bill makes it a bit paler than the US Pale Ale style, but meh. The last hop addition should be when the wort is below 80º, as to not add bitterness. You COULD pinch some grams from the last 2 additions (both 5 grams?) and use them in dry hop. Let us know how it turns out! Opal should be a nice hop, it's on my 'wanted' list now :thumba:

I took the liberty of leaving the alfa-percentage at 6.5%, but I hope yours doesn't deviate too much. Anywhere between 6 and 7 should be okay.
