On the BBC text service this morning ...

"A new campaign us urging people between the ages of 45 to 65 to have regular "Drink-Free" days.

Middle-aged drinkers are more likely than other age groups to drink more than the recommended 14 units a week.

A YouGov poll also shows that they find cutting back on alcohol far harder than eating healthily or exercising.

Doctors say "drink-free" days will improve sleep, help with weight loss and reduce the risk of high blood pressure and cancer."

Oh dear! What a shame! Never mind! acheers. acheers. acheers.

I hope all you "middle-aged" people take note! If nothing else, you will sleep better! :laugh8: :laugh8: :laugh8:

I thought the drink free days during the week wasn't a new thing and has always been recommended to allow your liver some recovery time.. Doesn't seem too much of an outrageous suggestion to me. And just a suggestion it is.

I laughed at the "middle aged" description being people aged between 45 to 65 years old!

How many people do YOU know who are between 90 and 130 years of age?

I hate to tell you youngsters, but "Middle-aged" describes anyone between the ages of 30 and 45; as will be proved by the Obituary columns of your local newspaper! athumb..

BTW, when my nephew was a teenager he was "disgusted" at the thought that "old people over thirty years of age" could still be interested in sex! I was extremely glad to still be alive last week when he celebrated his 30th birthday and reminded him of his earlier views,

Funnily enough, he seemed reluctant to take on a celibate lifestyle and his latest squeeze didn't look too happy either! :laugh8:

I thought they said zero alcohol is the only safe limit, I wish they'd make their minds up.

They should have ******** free days in work too.
I totally agree with food free days for great big fat people.
My beer intake goes with my shift pattern. For instance, yesterday was my second day shift,I had three beers as I'm nights tonight and tomorrow night, then off until Sunday. This week my" weekend " will be Wednesday to Friday...I get asked stupid questions the main one being..do you think getting ****** on a week night is a good idea? Yup...people who have never worked shifts just don't get it...
I don't drink any more just at different times.

Why are they so bothered - high blood pressure and cancer save the NHS a bl**dy fortune.
Nothing costs like old age and altzheimers.

Remember "Work is the curse if the Drinking Class".

On Wednesday morning you could have a few pints to help you sleep in the daytime ... athumb..

... or alternatively SWMBO will produce her list of "Things for you to Do" as long as your arm! aheadbutt

"Retire and live long enough to be a miserable old git who stinks of beer!" is my advice. clapa clapa

That's it, we've got them sussed.... beer and cigs and junk food prolong life so cost the NHS a fortune. Ignore them. And don't get me started on bloody global warming!

I used to drink beer on getting in off my last night shift..no good if you have to be up doing stuff...yes the list of "to do"...mostly if which I ignore unless it's MY list...drink beer, make curry,go fishing....

My Mother has just turned 68 and is adamant she is still middle aged. Oh the lies we tell ourselves.

Also, I don't know about you guys, I sleep better after a bottle of wine.

Tw*ts. How about food-free days for the terminally fat? Or maybe give us a break once a week by having one day free of any such nonsense?

Food free days or fasting as it's otherwise known is extremely good for you. There are multiple benefits from it apart from weight losss

Does it mean when you've turned 65 you can drink every day safely?

...........

My Mum stayed at 38 years old for many, many years!

As each of her grandchildren did Maths at school and reached that really curious period (*) every one of them:
  • Asked her how old she was ...
  • ... did the maths ...
  • ... and then said "But that means you must have had my Mum (or Dad) when you were ..... ! (The younger ones discovered that Gran had their Mum when she was only about eight years old!)
To which my Mum always replied "Really? I know I was very young when I got married." and God only knows why, but they immediately took that as a reasonable answer!

(*)

The "curious age" starts any time after the child reaches two years of age ... athumb..

... and lasts until they are about eighteen years old; and suddenly know it all. aheadbutt
