Congrats Dan!
The Triple and RIS got 24 and 25 respectively, which are pretty disappointing. The others were round about where I expected them. Looking forward to the feedback.

Fancy a RIS swap to see if we can see in each other’s what the judges saw? Bit of calibration?!

My Dubbel obviously didn’t travel well as one score sheet said it was a gusher. The other just said it was highly carbed. Not had any gushers at home with it so I’m not sure went wrong. The feedback was also inconsistent on it - one said medium bittering and the other over-harsh.

Happier with my saison scores. Both really liked it but picked up on some minor flaws (mainly in the phenolics and some fusel alcohol). I got 3/3 for appearance on both of them which I’m chuffed with. Not bad for my first ever Saison. Not sure about the “under-attenuated” comment though as it finished at 1.002!

Pleased with my comments. I lost out a lot on aroma but scored decently on flavour. I can definitely relate to that when I drink my RIS as it’s basically just roast on the nose but there’s more sweetness on the flavour. I don’t really know how to fix that, ideas welcome! Both judges suggested it should improve with age, which is good as I’m planning to lay it down until Christmas now. I wasn’t planning to enter this into the comp when I brewed it so all in all I’ve got to be happy.

I wish I could read everything on the scoresheets -

Drop Sarah a message and ask her to do a higher res scan, she’s responding very helpfully on Facebook so I’m sure she’d do it for you.

Yeah she’s done it for me but the rescan isn’t much better - she’s going to try again tonight. I think it says something like “underlying it’s probably a good beer but...”

But tastes of stale fart.....
Haha. No it reckons whatever has caused the gusher has given it a harsh aftertaste. It’s a shame because there were no off flavours or anything detected it seems to be the gusher that has caused the poor marks. My theory is that something has caused the yeast to kick off again in transit - I’ve had 5 or 6 bottles from that batch and everything has been fine. I did deliberately carbonate it quite high because my favourite commercial Dubbels are but no issues with gushing.

Top marks to Sarah for getting back to me so quickly with the high res scan :hat:athumb..

Great scores there Dan, well done!
Thanks Steve, I was really surprised to do so well with both the beers, but hoped one of them might get into the high 30s.
Interesting thing is, I'd sent a bottle of the AIPA to my regular bottle swap buddies, @Leon103 and @Hoddy, so we could test out our judging skills before the results were announced - we didn't give it higher than 36 between us :laugh8:

36.5 from me actually. And in return I have beer poisoning

Only kidding the kids are the blame for my poor health

Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot about the extra 0.5 - makes you the best judge out of the three of us :hat:
