Hi there I am planning an IPA as soon as I have a FV vessel available which will prob be next week at earliest.
I have in my fridge the trub I collected from an IPA I made at start of year.
Its in a 3/4 full glass jar. I done nothing but pour the trub from the bottom of my FV into this jar and and left in fridge ever since. The yeast I had used at the time was a better quality one than just the wilko yeast satchet although I think I may have added that in as well I cant remember.
So when making my wilko IPA do u suggest I use this or just stick to the satchet of dry yeast that comes with the kit?
I have never done this before and must say donthave a clue.
If I do use the stuff in the jar do i need to pour the clearer liquid on top out before adding it to my brew?
do i use all of whats in the jar?
do i get the jar up to room temp before adding?
is it just a simple case of adding when pitching temp is correct and dumping in? or stirring in? gently? vigorously?

Dont bother if you dont know what is inside. Another thing, its to old. Personally i wouldnt use anything older than 2 weeks. I dont know what yeast come with wilko kit but im assuming not the best. Get a packet of US-05 instead.
 
Make a starter from the trub you collected a few days prior to your brew day, this will then tell you whether what you have collected is viable (I suspect it will be).
EDIT
Just re-read your original post and seen it states the trub was collected at the beginning of the year, you may still be OK but suggest you do make a starter in plenty of time prior to the brew day, this will buy you time to make decisions if the yeast isn't viable.

Well, your jar of yeast will undoubtedly contain a lot of revivable yeast cells, but it's now so old that I would forget it. There might be dodgy stuff in there as well. Why risk a whole brew? If you're not planning to pitch until next week, then you surely have time to get an alternative yeast? Either through a local homebrew shop or online. If that is absolutely out of the question, then I'd chuck your jar of yeast away and pitch the sachet of yeast that came with the kit. It will be safer, and the beer will definitely be drinkable.
 
jar going in bin just going to use the dry yeast as u say why risk a whole brew ty
