Brewers select have some cheap hops available, however they are 2013 and 2014, they state they are stored at 4c, will they of lost too much AA’s

They have lost some by how much is too much? I suggest emailing them as they should know about how much.

Bittering will be fine, mid range flavour less so, aroma lost.

BeerSmith has a hop age tool and some of them really nosedive. I just used some Target and it loses 50% alpha acids in 6 months apparently.

Google "hop storage index"

Thanks for the replies. I sent brewers select a message but never got a reply. Yeh I’d found the hop index after I’d posted, think I will give these a miss and pay a bit more for fresh

Hi Simon,

Many of our customers have purchased the 2013 crop hops (currently at £2.50 per 5kg box) to use for bittering.
We do not handle the hops ourselves, they are packaged at source and transported to us in refrigerated containers to be stored in our cold storage unit. This is for optimum freshness.

Though we can appreciate your concerns about deterioration over this time, we have had a good response from customers who took advantage of our hop sale.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to trial a free box of our 2013 crop hops.

Best regards,
Siobhan

Reading a few articles recently exposure to air isn't a big deal as long as the temperature is low. I've not been repacking into vac bags recently and just squeeze the big silver hop bags use an iron to seal them up. I picked a load of fresh hops away from home and put them in Ikea bags and slung them in a freezer without drying them and they're still really great.

Does anyone know the postage costs from them, can’t find it anywhere on their website. Grain is quite well priced, might stock up with grain and try some of the hops
