I have my beers "critiqued" by the head brewer of our local (prizewinning) microbrewery......

I recently bought a cheap builders bucket, bog-standard 99p job, and when I got home I checked the plastic code - polypropylene, so food safe!
A second bucket, from a different store, was not food-safe material.
Now, when I buy plastic containers, I always check for a material code, just out of interest.
PS I'm thinking of getting a life soon :D
When I started brewing many years ago my FV was a 5 gallon orange plastic dustbin which saw 25 years of service before I stopped brewing. I don't think 'food safe' had been invented then, or if it had, it certainly didn't apply to my dustbin. And to get rid of any crud on the wall it used to get cleaned with a kitchen scouring pad.
How times change...
