Shop bought water for wine kit

Hi

I am on my 2nd wine kit, my first a Cellar 7 pinot worked out well. Ive read that buying cheap water out the shops improves your wine. Is this true?, and how does it improve your wine?

Wine is normally made from the water in grapes that gets removed when it's concentrated into the kit so using the purest water you can will make it most like it was before. It is possible a different water profile could even improve a wine and it's unlikely there has ever been any in depth experimentation on it. That's my speculation on it and sorry it doesn't help.

Thanks for the response, will just stick to the tap stuff perhaps. Worked fine the first time.. Although i only got 26 bottles, thought i would only lose 2 bottles max. Not complaining tho!

I have only ever used tap water I am too tight to buy bottled. :laugh8:

Me too!. Any advice on how to hit the 30 bottle mark?, got 26 out of last kit

As I said above I am tight so I add extra water (i used to get the same 26 bottles) at the begining I like to aim for 28 bottles which I guess is an extra 1.5 litres I wouldn't aim for 30 bottles as that's going to be 3 litres and may effect the flavour, tilting the FV when bottling also helps. (A thick book does the trick)

Yeah, i put in an extra bottles worth of water (750ml), was worried it would weaken the taste tho.

same as chippy, these kits are 28 bottles, not 30 - it's a complete marketing ploy! (followed to the letter, you will not get 30 bottles).

I did however notice a big difference moving to bottled water, costs about £2 more ! Much nicer

Might give the water a go. Just bottled a Solomon Grundy kit, got 28 bottles.. On first tasting it is better than the Cellar 7 kits. Both were a Pinot.
