Which is entirely errelevant to whether it is brewing or not. Or does the cost/automation aspect mean that using a Braumeister also isn't brewing?

There is SOME influence on the process, I guess. The LG machine is fuller automated. Plus as far as I can see the pods are fixed with no option of refilling.

When I owned a bread machine, I didn't consider my self to be baking, the machine did the baking. I just added the ingredients to the machine.

I guess it equates to those pod coffee machines and a jar of instant. Does either make someone a barista? Probably not, but they are both ways to make a coffee.

Surely with a Braumeister you have to come up with a recipe, actually mash in, sparge etc. This machine is merely inserting a 'beerpod' (like a coffee pod) and you have little to no control over what you are producing. With a kit, you 'can' tweak them by steeping grains/doing a partial mash/boiling additional hops for bittering and flavour etc.

This is what I was trying to say - with instant coffee there is slightly more control over the process in that you can decide how much coffee and water you put in your mug. With a coffee pod, you only really have control over the amount of water going through the pod. So with instant, you have control over 2 elements in making the final product but with the pod, only one.

With a Braumeister/grainfather/ ace etc, you have control over more elements of the process including length of mash/boil

At least pods make real coffee as opposed to coffee flavoured drink.

I've had some poor coffee from pods but also some very good coffee.
I've had some poor beer from kits made up as is and also some very good beer.

I voted that this machine is 'brewing at home' (note the wording in the vote) but would consider it even more basic than making up a kit as per instructions as there is very little user input which could affect the end product

If you want to make a pot noodle by boiling a kettle and adding a sachet of soy sauce, and call it cooking, I'm fine with that. However, it's some stretch to take a moral high ground from there, over someone microwaving a ready meal. :laugh8:

But, but, but....
If I make a pot noodle, I have a choice over whether to put the sachet of soy sauce in or not....and also whether to open it before adding it. ashock1 Both affect the final product more than someone stabbing a microwave meal and letting it spin for a few minutes wink...

I honestly think that as brewers we should just walk away from this, with knowing looks on our faces, shaking our heads and smiling smugly. Then leave it at that... lol

Kit brewing, for those who don't even want the effort of boiling water, opening a pouch/can and stirring it in....

Moving on. lol
