Hi all,

Does anyone have any sources in the UK where I could buy a counterflow chiller?

I see a few places that sell the grain father one but they're a bit steep!

I know I could build one and I'd love to, but young kids and limited free time get in the way!

I see some SS ones on AliExpress but I'm not sure about taking a punt, once you add the postage you're up in the grainfather spare area anyway,

Cheers!

They seem to be hard to come by unless you import one from across the pond.

Have you decided against a plate chiller?

Thanks guys, I have decided against a plate chiller, I just don't think I trust it not to get blocked with hop debris.
Jamil Zainisheff and John Palmer don't like them for home brewing if that's any help. They prefer the twisty pipey ones.

Yes I've been reading about that, I have a very nice double coil twisty one but it still takes 30 mins to chill even with stirring, I think my water pressure isn't great.

Might have dreamt it....in sure I seen one on Malt Miller website and it wasn't the GF one...
Yes they have one...6.5m stainless steel,£120.

Necro thread revival.

How do you control the outlet temp @LeeH? i.e. what's to stop the wort being under or over chilled?

I made one in the end (then subsequently blew it up but that's another story).

I control the wort temp using the rate of flow, i.e. slow the flow of wort down and it is more chilled at the other end and vice versa.

I understand the concept, but to ensure the wort going into the FV is the correct temperature, you must have to recirc initially until you can read the output and see it's stable?

I just start with the wort trickling through as slow as possible, measure the temp then increase the flow slowly until I get pitching temp. Takes no more than a few seconds.
