It didn't take them long to fake the new £5 note would you have been caught out before reading this?

I haven't used cash in months. It's contactless for everything these days. Pubs were the last redoubt but now it's contactless there as well.

This is definately true in London. I've come across quite a few places (mainly coffee shops), that refuse cash now and only do card. It seems it's really easy to get a small card machine that's connected somehow (I assume something like bluetooth) to a mobile phone. This is the set up I see a lot in small independant shops. I even stopped at a canal narrow boat for a coffee once and thats what they had

I went to a HBS last week and bought a few kits with the birthday money I had from my inlaws and it felt really strange handing over money and receiving some back

Won't it get changed anyway once she leaves the throne and a new monarch is crowned?

True! All old notes will become worthless overnight.

If you start now, you will probably be able to sell your notes at up to 50% of their face value.

I would buy a couple of thousand pounds worth off you just for their future nostalgic value; but as a fellow homebrewer I suggest that you hold on to them because your great-great-great-great grandchildren will then inherit something of value.

PS
Assuming that Charles is anointed to the role of monarch, the Royal Mint will probably print the replacement notes on tissue paper as an acknowledgement that his reign may not be as long as his mother's!
