I wonder if he will join later rather than be seen to be jumping on the independent group band wagon.

Ian Austin has become the ninth MP to quit Labour this week, blaming leader Jeremy Corbyn for "creating a culture of extremism and intolerance".

He told the BBC the leadership had failed to tackle anti-Semitism and had turned the party into a "narrow sect".

But the MP for Dudley North said he had no plans to join the new Independent Group of former Labour and Tory MPs.

Jeremy Corbyn said he "regretted" the MP's decision while his deputy Tom Watson said it was a "serious blow".

A Labour spokesman suggested Mr Austin should stand down and call a by-election in his West Midlands seat, which we won by only 22 votes in 2017.

Mr Austin told the Express & Star newspaper, which first broke news of his resignation, that it was the "most difficult decision" he had ever had to take.

Like jjsh, I doubt it. From what I've read he's a brexiter whereas the TIG all seem to be remainers

I haven't read about his reasons fully so was assuming he would be the next to join looks like I was, wrong.

Ian Austin has said he would not join the breakaway independent party as he does not agree with them wanting a fresh referendum

Erhmm I think there is a lot more going on behind closed doors in that party than we are getting to hear about. Ian Austin has the look of a person completely demoralized with his position and role. I've seen this in the work place, and his tone speaks volumes. So much for being a party for the workers!

Dutto please remove your rose tinted spectacles, .........

I don't have rose-tinted spectacles, but I am proud that the Labour Party is going back to the Socialist ideals that brought us most of the benefits that we all enjoy today.

After nine years of Conservative Government the only growth in this area is in the number of potholes and the number of people who use food-banks.

I defy anyone to tell me that this country is being run "For the many and not the few." ...

... without donning some rose-tinted spectacles (and blinkers so that they can't see what is happening)!

I may have become very cynical over the many years I have been on this planet but my view on the big two parties is the **** into different sides of the same pot, labour are not in it for us and I imagine many vote for them because there is no other option (I have done this for years) they make all the right noises to get into power but they never tell us how they can afford to do what they pledge and when then do get in they rarely implement what they pledged (and that goes for both parties) it's time for a change and I hope the indipendant group can come together and form a new party which will cater for both sides then I will be able to vote for a party I think will make a difference.

Hi!
I'm going to tread lightly here!
@Chippy_Tea Do you not think that Jeremy Corbyn's "unpopularity" in the Labour Party, as you see it, is a reaction to his attempts to pull what had become Tory Lite under Blair back to its Democratic Socialist roots? While I am sympathetic to the devastation caused by industrial closure in any particular area, I can't see the point on spending billions on a nuclear deterrent when there are food banks operating, and they are on the increase, and thousands are suffering financial hardship because the Tory party still cling to ill-conceived austerity policies.
@Nicks90 hell bent on his own brand of politics - forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the role of a party leader? I suppose Mrs. May is not hell bent on her own brand of politics?
Please don't confuse anti-semitism with anti-Zionism. I found the arguments put forward in this article very interesting: https://www.middleeasteye.net/opini...xenOR_kmaUrhYdRKhkCvBCXWpNMEDXRAm13KVG0_rwQcc

COL I would not vote Toty to save the shipyard and have never voted Tory .

I cannot now vote for a party (Labour) that is so divided I don't think JC is the right man for the job he makes all the right noises, is likeable (to people that don't know him personally) but is unpopular within the party and if you believe the recent reports he is a bully Labour will never win an election with him leading them.

That doesn't mean i will vote conservative.

This independent group have merely become independent of the suckers who voted them in but I'll say no more.
WTF ! ( another abbreviation for the list) I've usually been thrown off a forum/ ejected from neighbors etc as soon as politics or religion get mentioned.

...........

After many, many years of supporting the Labour Party, I actually joined because they appeared to be so divided!

Amongst other things, I was sick and tired of Labour MP's complaining about a Party Leader who had been elected by majority vote within a democratic system.

These people are the ones that challenged the Leadership of Mr. Corbyn, forced a Leadership Election in 2016 and then showed their own ineptitude by expecting that Mr. Corbyn wouldn't stand for re-election!

He didn't and instead Mr. Corbyn won with nearly 62% of the vote.

In 2017 a General Election was called, the Labour Party increased their numbers in Parliament by an additional THIRTY MP's and the Conservative Party now has to reply on the support of the Democratic Unionist Party to support them.

Since this election defeat, all of the Tory supporting UK Media have been telling everyone who will listen that the Labour Party needs a different Leader!

Really? clapa

All I can say is that my Mum must have been correct when she told me "Some people will believe anything!"

I don't think this new group is that significant at the moment but I would like to see either after we leave the EU or even better 2 years ago both labour and the tories split into 2 more united parties or scrap all current parties and make 5+ new ones. I just don't see having effectively 2 parties giving people a choice of what they really want.

All I know is... Chuka Umunna has great ears.
Haha, While he was a member of Labour Friends of Israel group, Corbin was a friend of Hamas, bound to be friction ( and a root cause of this antisemitism sweeping through the ranks)

All I know is, people need to stop and do 2 things.

1) Examine the source of the information claiming that JC is a bully, racist, antisemitic etc etc etc... Oh yeah, the very right wing media he has pledged to sort out and force to publish ACTUAL FACT BASED news should he ever get into No 10. The very same press owned by the wealthy elite who would be hit the hardest under a socialist government....

2) Learn the difference between antisemitism and anti-Zionism. The former is based on bigotry, the latter is an opposition to the state of Israel and it's ever widening borders. Unfortunately, there are those who seek to blur the lines between the 2, insisting that anti-Zionism is just a cover for modern antisemitism... When it really really isn't, it's opposition to the idea that some magic man in the sky gave a group of people the right to steal a chunk of land from the rightful inhabitants based purely on their religious beliefs. Especially when a lot of so called "Israelis" are actually ex-pat Americans, some probably even brits. Can you imagine if a bunch of us Pagans claimed say, Anglesey, as a new country called Pagania stating that our gods told us that it was ours to claim? Then shot anybody who tried to claim otherwise etc, and threw out the people already living there, stealing their homes, their farms etc? We then gradually expand our borders, illegally, into the rest of Wales, building fences as we go, ignoring the international laws telling us we can't do this, because our gods gave us the right to do this!~.... Yeah, crazy isn't it?

As to Trident, yeah because a few jobs are more important than been able to use those funds for the NHS, education etc etc, oh and lets not forget trying to prevent mutually assured destruction whilst we're about it... We live in a world now where ICBMs are NOT a deterrent, but rather seem to just drive more and more despots to want their own so they can "feel safe from the western bullies"

Was it last week or the week before they were discussing another cold war when they close down the shipyards and he skills have been lost keep your fingers crossed some country doesn't take advantage of that fact.

If we are discussing saving money to fund NHS, education and i had to choose between scrapping trident or HS2 it would be HS2 that would be scrapped and that is not just a decision based on my location.

Talking of antisemitism versus zionism won't help.
Of course they are different but people should look at where this Jew hatred comes from, pick up a Koran and it's clear to see where the driving force can be.Another sky fairy entreats Muslims to ' Kill the Jews' as a religiou duty,
Hamas teaches children to kill the Jews.
Catholics until recently were told 'Jews killed Christ', more fuel.
Corbin's in bed with Islamists, has been for a long time.
Another thing that needs stating is whether or not some Israeli is really an expat American is neither here nor there, this country is full of expat Pakistani, ~Bangladeshi' who claim a passport, they ' Zionists' too?
At this juncture, people are not going to say to Australians Kiwis etc, 'get out you ******* zionists'
You are now where you are and the only democratic state in the middle east where Muslims also have a vote and it's illegal to throw gays off buildings on paper at least , isn't going anywhere. Most Israelis are secular I think.
Hamas will continue to push children to throw rocks/ stab people etc because they are sky fairy- driven.
Corbin is almost a parody , My father in law has actually known the guy for 50 years from Islington, had many meals together and says he's a nice guy, good constituency MP, But, 'I wouldn't vote for him as leader'.
He's completely out of his depth, It's like he'd plant a row of onions down at the allotment in the morning then could easily change his mind, dig em up and plant cabbages, blows with the wind.
And that wind is the bullies and bigots of Momentum.
He'll keep Labour out of power.
