Just started wearing varifocal contact lenses after wearing glasses for the past three years and what a difference these make, no more worrying about it raining, taking them off to put clothing on, cleaning etc and not as expensive as I thought(but not cheap).

OK you have to get used to putting them in and taking them out and can only wear them for 12 hrs tops but I love them, any thoughts?
 
Same as @MickDundee! The thought of sticking something in my eyes sends shivers up my spine.

After my cataract operations I can now see long distance without spectacles so I've got myself a pair of "half-moon" specs like these.

They allow me to read a book, use the computer, phone etc but a quick look upwards and I can clearly see the TV or anything else more that a couple of feet away. (I would have liked a pair of "pince-nez", but without them being strapped to my head I just know that they would fall off and be stepped on within days!)

BTW, reports of contact lenses being welded to the wearers eye-balls during welding operations is an urban myth that has no substance, so if your contact lenses are comfortable "Enjoy!"
 
Lenses don't work for me, tried so many times. Eyes feel like they have permanent itch. I've spent soooo much time trying to get them on I have now forever settled on glasses.
 
I wear glasses for reading but when watching TV etc i don't need them, a guy at work has a pair for reading and one for distance that would drive me mad and i would look into contact lenses if my eyes got that bad.

Contact lenses were life changing for me. Absolutely amazing invention.

My Wifes the same with me, if I talk about them she changes the subject sick... Ironically the guy who tested me for contacts etc can't get on with them either.
 
I once tried them, but unfortunately put them in the wrong way round. One of our cats, who at the time was eating her food just a few feet away, looked like she was 5 miles in the distance, and going to the bog for a squirt was mindblowing.

I only needed reading glasses a couple of years ago but got really frustrated taking them out of my pocket to sign in at customers and enevatabley putting a big thumb print on them. I then went down the route of varifocals so I could wear them most of the time, I didn't need them for TV etc, but hated it when it rained or was playing golf or whilst cooking and taking stuff out of the oven.

Thanks, if I ever have the urge to start welding I will be comforted knowing that I will be OK wink...

Was it to do with your tears as the optician thought that I may struggle with this as my tears didn't produce enough oil to coat the lens for long enough on the initial test. Luckily he tested them again yesterday and said they were fine, sorry to hear you can't use them, I was told there were many that try them and don't get on with them for one reason or another.

Unfortunately the shape of my eyes is akin to a rugby ball. No I'm not an alien... It does however mean that I need a certain type of lens and even then it doesn't like staying on my eyeball comfortably.

Sucks being me!

My wife has an astigmatism and manages with lenses fine. You might just be unlucky.
 
It was the dailies I tried as the optician recommended I do for additional flexibility in the lens. Is this potentially utter ********?
 
A couple of years ago at a different opticians when i asked about varifocal contacts they said they were no good and I wouldn't get on with them, proved them wrong then.
 
I wore lenses for years, was told by opticians to stop as my eyes were suffering
Astigmatism can easily be corrected by them
I may go back to them as been given all clear now.

My first pair of Varifocals were great but the second pair had such a narrow viewing band that I went back to bifocals.

After about 50 years of wearing specs all day the freedom of not having to wear them when driving, watching TV, brewing beer etc is fantastic!

I can thoroughly recommend cataract operations when they become necessary.
 
My wife didn't recognise her dad after he had his cataracts done because he wasn't wearing glasses
 
wow the concept of vari focals is a real eye opener!! I used to waer blue conatcts when I was 5 as I waas a rebel and just wanted to make a statement but now as an old fart who need galsses to get by the concept of varificol contacts is a real boon ( but not a boon gueze clapa) i wonder if i should try them? My wife is now on contacts and she has learnt to use them so maybe its time to jump ...
