It's that time of the year again. At the end of this week we will be heading for France so I am signing off for about 14 weeks because there is no wi-fi readily available in the small village where we stay when we're over there.

If I am selected as a Candidate, I will come back to the UK at the end of April in order to stand for election as a Councillor in the Local Council Elections on 2nd May 2019.

The electoral system in the UK may not be perfect, but no amount of sitting at home and moaning about how badly things are being managed will change things, so please go and VOTE on the 2nd May 2019. (Put the date in your Diary now so that you don't forget.)

Please play nice while I'm away!

BTW, before anyone comes up with the usual reasons for not voting (these are usually "My vote makes no difference." or "No matter who you vote for, things won't change because all politicians are just out for themselves." etc) please remember that a lot of people suffered a lot of hardships to get the ordinary people of the UK a Vote in the way in which we are governed; this is a privilege that is not shared by everyone around the world!

Here's hoping you have a great trip. And hats off to you for sticking your neck out and trying to make a difference :hat:

Have a great trip. Wish I was doing the same thing.

This post is missing the usual report as to what homebrew is going with you by the way.

I've seen enough of your posts to determine that you're not the worst person I've ever encountered (the bar isn't terribly high here). I'd vote for you if you threw in some beer holidays (funny because I"m not from the UK).

Dutto if you've got a smartphone with data included in your package then you can use it in the EU at no extra cost than if you were in the UK.

Thanks for the send-off and I apologise for not pointing out that I will be taking the following with me:
  • 10 litres of Grapefruit Pale Ale
  • 10 litres of EPA Bitter
  • 10 litres of Mild Ale (with Chocolate)
  • A few bottles of:
    • Cherry Lager
    • Robust Porter
    • Premium Bitter
    • SMASH with Citra
How many "few bottles" is dependent on how much other weight we are carrying in the car. I'm pretty optimistic at the moment as most of the things that we need to take with us are more "volume" than "weight"; and I can put pressure on SWMBO by pointing out how much we will save if I don't have to buy any beer over there and we also need empty 10 litre containers to bring them back full of wine! One of the pleasures of France is to see little old ladies trudging along to the local wine shop with their five litre cans for a re-fill. About thirty years ago, when I first noticed them, I actually thought they were going to a garage for petrol or paraffin! Ha!

Are you only going for three weeks Dutto?

A real quick one from my phone!

Yesterday a mate took me to a place in St Nazaire called La Balienne which had TWENTY-FOUR different Cask Beers on tap!

The system is you buy a card for as little as €10 then help yourself until the money runs out!!

I tried my very first Sour Ale and Wheat Beer. Both delicious and both now on my “Brews to Make” list. It’s a must to return when I’m not driving!!

So many brews and so little time!!

Signing off again and back to my 6litres (was 10 two days ago) of Mild; and as it’s raining like mad here, SWMBO is on Hot Toddies in sympathy!

Will have to get a driver together and drink the place dry!
It's a couple of hours driving from you but the second Saint-Malo beer festival is on this weekend. https://en.saintmalocraftbeerexpo.com/
If anyone's in the vicinity! It's an overnighter from Portsmouth and your there on the doorstep.
Not going to make it myself, working Saturday. Better luck next year.
