Tomorrow will be 7 days after pitching the yeast so i'm going to add my dry hops.

What is best used to weigh down the bag? and should i be aiming for it to be heavy enough to sink it to the bottom of the FV?

I've seen some people mention marbles which we have a lot of in my house, would it be a case of just steralising them and putting them into the bag with the hops?

thanks

Some people use stainless steel cutlery. I use marbles and when I first re-purposed them the amount of **** and grit that came out of the scratches when I boiled them was shocking.

I've just dry hopped. The missus is wondering where all the spoons have gone from the cutlery draw!!!! athumb..

jumbo marbles from marble king athumb..

If it's pellet hops, you can throw them in loose and they'll sink to the bottom in time.

I never use a bag for dry hopping.

I have some of these bought specifically (except from Poundland) for the job. Used them a few times, but now I would chuck pellets in and hope that racking to a secondary FV will help to stop carry over of vegetable matter to the bottles.

I've tried that but it doesn't work for me asad.

Just tried my first dry hop and used a nylon bag with a spoon in it(thanks for the suggestion Clint) as I don't want bits of hops in my beer, only the taste.

Thanks but the idea I stole off a much cleverer forum member who's name I cannot remember! Its nice and simple though. What bag did you use?
Just don't forget to sanitise everything.

I use marbles and keep forgetting not to throw them in the bin, have tried loose pellets and there OK but I got thr odd bit in the finished beer.

I let the bag float on top, pushing it below the surface once or twice with a clean spoon. As long as all the hops are soaked, in a sufficiently large bag, the goodness will come out of the hops and into the beer and the final squeeze when you remove the bag will do the rest. Yeah, it means taking the lid off once a day with attendant risks, but never had any problems. It's more of a problem getting the bag out from the bottom of the secondary before bottling.

I used a nylon bag I had kicking about (can't remember why I had it, must have been free with something) as for sanitising it's my middle name, I even sanitised the pellets(joke)
