I’ve decided to move on. I shan’t participate in forum discussions any more, although I may look in from time to time.

I’ve done my stint of helping beginners and answering queries. Exceptionally I helped someone the other day via a PM he/she sent me, spent some time on a reply, but received not a jot of an acknowledgement, even though I know my advice was acted upon. Normally I wouldn’t bother but this time I thought wtf. So I’ll leave it to others to try to help the uninitiated. I’ve left a few basic how-to’s along the way which in context still look relevant if a little facile to some. And I’ve not upset too many folks in my time on here so that counts for something I suppose.

The forum has changed since I joined 4 years ago. It's now less populated with ‘ordinary’ brewers like me rather more those who have developed their interest to a fine art, or is that a science? So it’s more their forum than mine. I’ve also noticed the loss of a few other regulars on here. Perhaps their reasons are similar to mine, who knows?

Anyway, its time to move on.

Or, as the old saying goes, all good things come to an end.

Sorry to hear that, I've always valued your insight on any threads I've created or participated in. I'd very much put myself in the "ordinary" brewer category as due to constraints of family life I only brew from kits at the moment. I'd love to attempt replicate some of the finest IPAs in the land one day as and when time allows but will certainly keep it real (and carry on sucking my siphon ashock1). It's all just a bit of fun at the end of the day and you get to drink what you make, some good, some not so good.

Maybe you'll change your mind after a few beers acheers.

Sorry to hear this Terry you have posted many brilliant guides which have been made stickies and will remain so, as for the person you helped by PM you will always get those who take and give nothing in return its the way of the world (unfortunately)

I hope you reconsider as the forum is for everyone especially "ordinary brewers".

Agreed!
Hope you can stay Terry, but if not - Happy Brewing!
Cheers

Yup this is sad. Sad that the final straw was someone not saying thank you.

Anyway, thank you! I have read some of your posts and got something from them thumbs up from me.

Shame you are departing.

I've noticed that some forum software has a "Thank" button next to posts. Is that a feature we've got here but not enabled?

I have done quite a lot on several Arcade Forums over the last 15 or 16 years and feel for you for what you have experienced.

So much knowledge and so much advice to give from someone with years experience in a field like brewing is far too much to lose.

I know i will not be alone in asking you to please stick around and continue to give input.

Thank you.

Terry, please reconsider your decision, we all know that nowadays people expect answers from social media and forums alike and don't give a toss about the person that spent half an hour typing an answer with two fingers(as I'm doing now) they just want the answer, maybe just poke your nose into threads if you see someone giving BAD advise etc it would be such a shame to loose someone with your knowledge. Thanks for the posts you have given advise on.(by the way this didn't take half an hour, only 27 minutes, still winning)

Hi Terry just take a break and re-visit when ready. Always good answers and advice from you I am sure we all go through those times but recharge the batteries and hopefully you'll post in the future

I haven't been around here that long, but over the last 6 months I have noted the valuable and considered contributions you make. Your posts and that of other passionate and regular brewers is valued highly. We all learn much from those who have travelled a similar road before us, may your travels be fruitful and refreshing!

Hiya, sorry to hear that. Thanks for the advice you have given to me as a beginner, still supping that Irish Stout which is awesome.

Hope to see you soon on here.

Kind regards

Stevie

Terry, we love you so... We want you to know that we're gonna miss your advice, the minute you walk through that door...
