My wife just gave me a bloody mary that ticked every box.

Ingredients

Vodka
Tomato juice
Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco Jalapeno
Sherry
Celery salt

garnished with a leaf-on stalk of celery.

My only problem is sourcing a really pungent, aromatic celery that is not stringy. Any suggestions?
 
Get young celery if you can, jan/Feb is the season but it will be forced all year, stalks in middle are best, stuff in supermarkets tends to be poor so unless you have a farm shop you can get to.....
 
Just had a quick Google,
It's to do with blocking light as to stop photosynthesis,
I doubt it would affect stinginess as that comes with older celery

No worries, I know you were trying to be helpful. I think it's going to be difficult to find a really pungent celery, especially as I live on Scotland's north coast. Five hours' north of Glasgow, even two-and-a-half hours' drive from Inverness.
 
Lol, that's not going to help, don't know how hard it is to grow as long as you are not in a hurry...
 
I just remember being in a college refectory that seated 600 plus. Everyone could smell the celery that someone was chomping on. The refectory had high, vaulted ceilings. Must have equated to a stadium in internal volume.
 
Buy online or garden centre. Follow the instructions on the packet!
Started mine off in pots in the greenhouse then transplant into the ground.
 
If you like a Bloody Mary, then you should give a Red Snapper a try.

Same recipe but substitute gin for the vodka.
 
I second the lemon or lime juice plus ice of course.

As a twist try clamato juice, not so easy to get but it’s bloody delicious.
 
Don't put ice in a BM! Tomato juice will go watery and it seems to 'burn' my lips; just keep TJ in the fridge.
 
Glad to see we've moved away from the celery.
Now, to cool it - I've never done this, but would mixing it in a shaker with ice and then straining be OK? Or would it lose something in the process? (This might mean we need to do some research ...:-)
 
You could roll it in a cocktail shaker but it really tastes better when it's not cold.
