I saw 2 fires had been lit in Duxbury woods today, only a few miles from Winter Hill. They'll set the ground on fire and could burn down an ancient woodland.
I am not familiar with Duxbury woods, but the pictures on Google Maps are very good. The woods are very close to the main road between Bolton and Chorley that I ran along on the Sunday 22 miler from my house to SWMBO's parents' in Blackburn back in the early 1990's, before I got responsibilities. My last run with Burnden Road Runners would have been the leg of the Manchester to Blackpool road relay from the Greenwood (Pub) to Yarrow Bridge (also a Pub) in 1995.
I rode up Healey Nab on Sunday. Only mentioning it 'cos I got a King of the Mountains on Strava!
