I doubt anyone will be surprised to see the results this morning, it was so predictable I couldn't be bothered to vote.

The Conservatives and Labour have faced a backlash at the ballot box over Brexit, with smaller parties and independents taking seats countrywide.

Results are coming in after local elections in England and Northern Ireland, and national politics seems to have been a deciding factor for voters.

Polls took place for 248 English councils, six mayors and all 11 councils in Northern Ireland.

Lib Dems are doing well, as are the greens (I bet gunge voted for them)

I bet you know who I really voted for. Can't wait til the election later this month when after all these decades, and in one fell swoop, the 'big 3' pass into history.

Bloke from the lib dems on the radio saying they are doing well because of the big twos shortcomings, it's a protest vote and I am sure he knows it as do the rest of us.

The same in many countries: the regular, old parties, having been way too comfy in their own bubble/cloud/ivory tower for too long.

If there was a general election tomorrow the the gains made by the lib dems would all but vanish, lets be honest if you are a Labour voter you are never going to vote Conservative and even if you like what the lib dems are promising you know they have no chance of getting in so voting for them gives a vote to the Tories.

Indiref2 will sort it for us! The wee cranky has got Teresa by the curlies, sh'ell gi,her a glasgie kiss good bye and orf we go to penniless parochial purgatory:oops:aheadbutt
Politics is just embarrasing boliticks at the moment. We must be the laughing stock of the EEC,,,

This looks good in the news for those who vote for the smaller parties but having read the figures for our area it shows the highest turn out was 45% and the lowest 31% i doubt these figures would be so low if it was a general election and it wasn't a protest vote by many.

The BBC projects that, if results it analysed were replicated in a general election, both the Conservatives and Labour would get 28% of the total vote.

The Conservatives and Labour have faced a backlash at the ballot box over the Brexit deadlock, with smaller parties and independents winning seats.

In England so far, the Tories have lost almost 800 seats and 28 councils overall, while the Liberal Democrats have gained more than 450 seats.

Labour has lost more than 80 seats.

The BBC projects that, if results it analysed were replicated in a general election, both the Conservatives and Labour would get 28% of the total vote.

The analysis, based on figures from 650 wards, would give the Lib Dems 19% and other parties and independents 25%.

Council results continue to come in for England and Northern Ireland. More than 170 English councils had declared by 14:00 BST, with counting under way elsewhere.

The Green Party has added 150 seats so far, but UKIP has lost ground, down more than 80 councillors on this stage than in 2015. Meanwhile, the number of independent councillors is up by more than 300.

Theresa May has said this shows the public want the gov't to deliver on brexit.

Yes, the public voting for pro-remain parties is the public saying "deliver brexit".

This made me :laugh8:

Who knows wtf is going on. As Gunge says the EU elections are going to be a shocker
Yes, if they're anything like these results they'll be shockingly good.

local elections are a good chance to kick the main parties in the nuts, but come a general election people are wary of voting for a Liberal, Green or another minority party. We Brits don't really want sudden change. But I think it would be wonderful if UK moved away from the two main parties.

Folk shunned the Tories and Labour because they simply cannot vote for either anymore, so what else could they vote for except someone with a 'remain bent'? The most fleeting idea of the LibDems getting most votes when it really matters is hilarious... So looking forward to later this month. UKIP sank because it is now just a name - the vote they would have had has gone to, and been reserved for Farage's Brexit Party. Bring it on!!!
