Like many I'm an inveterate ebay stalker, and an occasional purchaser.

At the moment, and I'm not entirely sure why, I'm looking at some old Herbert Terry angle poise lamps. They seem to range from knackered and cheap to "How Much?!?".

Anyway, what are you lurking and spying on - and why? Feel free to post pics of dodgy old cars, retired bikes, stamp collections and the occasional goldfish.

I watch one of those TV progs where a guy from Wales travels the country buying stuff to sell in his shop (cannot remember title) when he sees these he always buys them.

Currently `watching' this at the moment:

It's £29 at the moment with 4 days left to go. Not that I'm going to be bidding on it - I don't care how rare it is, that's insane money for a bit of paper!

I've been collecting Welsh beer labels for a few years now - currently got about 450 different ones, mostly off bottle having drunk the contents, but I occasionally go mad and buy some historic ones off Ebay if I can get them cheap enough.

I've been watching spare spools for my Shimano long cast reels...I managed to get 3 earlier in the year but it's one of those....gotta have them things!

I have several saved searches on eBay; Braumeister 20L, Homematic IP wi-fi thermostatic radiator valve, Homematic IP wall thermostat, Tilt hydrometer (have one want another) and Plaato, which is a bubble counter for brewing.

I’m rather lucky that I’ve been outbid, but in a non-sober state at the weekend I bid on a match worn shirt signed by Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan.

Before that it was dodgy golf gear to wear at my mate's stag do.

I've just bought this - warning, you'll need eye bleach. As if brewing isn't enough, my latest daft hobby is electronics restoration. I couldn't resist giving a low offer for this pile of complete junk ($20), and I'm aiming to have it back to how it would have looked (and worked) 36 years ago.

It'll be a laugh, it won't make economic sense when I sell it on.

If it powers up that should be a relatively easy job - a good clean, a new keyboard membrane and faceplate and it'll be good as new. Do you know what model the board is?

I love old Spectrums.

Did you get any other delivery quotes out of interest?
Yeah I must have got nearly 10 in total. All ranging from £180 down to two at £88. The nice thing is the website has a link to Ebay so you can just insert the auction number before you bid and get quotes on shipping it.

If you can be flexible on collection and delivery dates you defo can get best value as they include you in runs in your area.

The guys I used were uk-vans and I was very impressed.

Have you got a link for UK-vans?

I tried a quote for a 20kg 120cm x 40cm x 40cm from Skipton to my home on Scotland's north coast and Parcel2go gave about £30 with Parcelforce - I thought that was pretty good. I suppose it all depends on whether the seller is prepared to stay in all day? I hope this thread encourages more people to shop on eBay and the likes, even when it says collection only.

Then I went to parcelmonkey.co.uk and they quoted £9.98 for collection-delivery, 48hr signed-for! Again, with Parcelforce.

It's an issue 2. I hope it's not too easy or it will be boring! I suspect from the seller's description that there might be faulty ram. I've not shown the circuit board but it is riddled with some very poor quality bodges and "fixes", for example they've done something very ugly with the power supply and hardwired (badly) the power supply into the circuit board.

It's going to be great fun!

I can only see them here https://www.shiply.com/transport-provider/uk-van on the shipley website. I dont know if they are an entity themselves. But don't be afraid there are many many providers on shiply so getting quotes via there is worth a look.

16k or 48k? I'm told the earlier issue 16k boards are scarce and can fetch quite a bit of money these days.

Are the board bodges aftermarket, or were they straight from the factory?

Oh yes the issue 1's are a thing of beauty - hand drawn traces on the circuit board, lovely. They don't come up often, only about 16,000 ever made.

The upper RAM is socketed and looks to have the right chips installed, so it should be 48k if it works. The lower RAM looks suspicious with at least one chip being of a different type to the rest, so that will be one of my first tasks to sort out.

Oh they are most definitely aftermarket bodges - it looks like a 5 year old who has just learnt to use a crayon has been handed a soldering iron.

An issue 1 16k was my first ever computer. Sadly it went to the tip in the late 90s.
