An unexpected brew this one, the wifes away and my daughter ill with tonsillitis means that i'm home from work early, kids safely in bed so on with the Patersbier that'll be ready for the start of the glorious summer we're bound to have!

Pg 128

10l brew as my 25 litre fermenter has oatmeal stout in it...

1935g Belgian Pilsner Malt

Mash in at 70c for an hour of 66c.

Saaz 13g at 60
Hallertauer 4g for last 10
Protofloc 1/4 tab for last 15

Chilled in the sink with the wort chiller for 45 mins.

OG 1044

I bought a few things off the hopshop and they didn't have Wyeast 3787 so I got Mangrove Jacks M47 Belgian Abbey pitched at 22c.

All went pretty smoothly till I decided to spill a pint of Clansman over myself while I was waiting for it to cool.

I did the Patersbier long enough ago for it to be long gone, but not forgotten. Used Mangrove Jacks M31 and some random Euro-hops. Did not carbonate much and it was surprisingly good for such a simple looking, low-key recipe. Lesson for all of us, perhaps!

Forgot to go back to this one, bottled on the 13th April, FG 1010 so ended up at 4.4% abv, i bought some sugar cubes just to see if this changed my bottling regime as I find this the most tedious part of the process. So one sugar cube per 500ml bottle, 2 weeks under the stairs and then out into the garage.

Had my first one last week and a couple last night, perfectly carbonated could possibly be more bitter but otherwise tastes nice, very pleased!
