Hi all,

I thought i'd come here after trying to find an answer but couldn't.

I have two fruit flavoured TC's on the go. After the initial froth up from the yeast, the yeast froth appears to be stuck at the top of the demijohn.

Should I give it a quick shake to release this as fermentation appears slow(ish)

Thanks

You could do, won't harm it, or leave it be. They'll be plenty of viable yeast floating around in it. Could be that fermentation is nearly over anyway, can be pretty rapid with these sorts of brews.

Thanks Graz. I've given both of them a slight shake to release the froth and all seems fine. Can I ask when do you know for sure that fermentation has stopped? at 1000 on the hydrometer I take it?

Sort of, in my experience cider yeast can take the gravity below 1.000. The usual indicators for me are firstly that the airlock bubbling has slowed to one or two bubbles a minute and then getting a consistent hydrometer reading over a few days i.e. it's not still dropping. But then I tend to leave most stuff for two weeks before thinking about bottling so it's usually well done and dusted by then.
