Fermentation bucket

I've got both the SS Brewtech brew bucket and the SS Brewtech Chronical. If you can afford the Chronical I'd go for that, easy to clean and you can do pressure transfers. The brew bucket is fine but the racking arm has a tendency to leak slightly sometimes and the O rings that interface with the bucket don't seem to last long. The O rings are cheap so not a great hardship to replace on a regular basis.
I think the Chronical is a great piece of kit though and can't find any faults with it.

If you don’t have the funds for the SS ones above, I’m a big fan of the Spiedel plastic fermenters - I actually think I prefer it to my Fermentasaurus for a lot of things.. You’ll be about £45 for the fermenter, tap and airlock.
I've just used the Get 'er brewed own brand bucket for the first time. Well constructed and the lid goes on with a satisfying clunk. On offer at £14, includes airlock, tap and bottle filler.

Now that I've got the i and the e the right way round , I see they're readily available. Thanks for the tip. My Hop & Grape 7 gallon buckets are wearing a bit thin and scratched and I've been putting off an upgrade for too long.

and me its a few years old and is still airtight.
Its best to get one that has ridges around the outer edge of the lid like the one below (not mine but similar) these are much stiffer and give you the satisfying clunk mentioned above.

I've often considered upgrading my cheap plastic buckets with something a bit swisher, however my brewfridge is only 50 cm high inside. Once you have included even a modest handy airlock, it doesn't leave a lot of leeway.

+1 I've got an old Richies one that had a very flexible lid and that leaks like a leaky thing on acid but have three of the newer type and they are brilliant

Has anyone bought one of the new stainless conicals from angel homebrew? I think there was a thread on this recently but they weren't available yet.
They look good but I think I'd not have enough room in the fridge because of the compressor hump, unless the legs can be configured shorter at the back to compensate.

Never heard of them, squire, so just googled and they seem to have many of the same features as the SS Brewtec for less than half the price. Are they any good?

MaltMiller sell some decent 33l fv's. They don't leak.

I've got one and the 16-litre, too. Don't like them very much, rather "agricultural" animal feed containers in my view. The lids snap on all round like 10-litre paint-pot lids, making a very tight seal which is equally difficult to snap off. They can be pressed into service at a pinch, but they're not made for the job. I use mine only as a liquor tank.
Having said that, there don't seem to be many alternatives around at this level.

These are better than the generic ones you get at Wilkos. The plastic is harder and less prone to scratching. Been using them over a year and they are still not stained. No problem getting the lids off either.

I think at the HB level, unless you want to do something special (such as ferment under pressure or bulk age) anything other than a plastic bucket is over rated. You don't even need a tap, as once you've got you've got your sysphoning technique down you can do it quickly and easily.
@the OP, you dont need to worry about 'leaking a lot of air' as the air lock tells you nothing about the progession of the fermentation. I've never used an air lock and just cover my FV with cling film

Why? You dont NEED a SS fermenter. This is of course completely different from WANTING a nice shiny, shiny SS fermenter

I use a 30 litre blue barrel with a small hole in the lid. Covered with a bit of tin foil and tape. Works for me
