I think it comes with a Newcastle Dark Ale yeast which attenuates around 73% so don't be surprised if it does get much below 1.025, edit that, just read you've also added lactose (non fermentable) so this will further bump up the final gravity but to what I've no idea as I've not personally used it in a brew myself.

So, I did a check last night and it's at 1.040 currently.
 
After almost two weeks? I'd be surprised if it got below 1.030 at this rate. I think you've under-pitched. I can't imagine the yeast sachet that came with the pack is anywhere close to the 20g that someone previously mentioned. Probably closer to 10g. They don't give you extra yeast in case you want to fiddle around with the kit. They give you just enough to get the job done, under optimum conditions. Any kits I ever made always came up a little short, including Youngs kits.

I have lots of the same yeast, so if it was me, I'd add more yeast. I am not sure if adding different yeast at this stage would have any negative impact. It's a problem I have not encountered, at least to that extreme. I'm guessing you want the FG to get below 1.020?

I'd add another packet of yeast if I was you. It's gonna cost you under 2 quid and might get you down those last few points. Make a little starter and throw it in and give it a gentle stir, I say. Again, if you could increase the temp a degree or 2 that would probably help too.

I'm pretty sure that all of the Young's American kits come with 20g of yeast.

Not sure it will go that low with the lactose.

Input all your ingredients into a recipe calculator and see what it says your target FG is. I *think* it'll take the lactose into account too.

My OG was 1.084. But I'll go with some extra yeast. Any recommendations? Thank you for checking that by the way. I do like my beers hefty, it's the way I want to go with them. Thank you again to everyone for the help.

The numbers seem to be a little off but the FG is the same, 1.028 seems to be what you should be aiming for.

Depends on your options for yeast. Not sure what Young's use, but if you want it now go to Wilko and get the gervin yeast, or your LHBS and get some US-05.

All the ones I've ever made did, but then phildo79 is clearly the expert on this as it sounds like he's never made one of these kits ;)

It was a 20g kit, but I ended up adding another 20kg kit of yeast.
