I recently bought a Buffalo CP799 "Heavy Duty 3KW Induction Hob" but it seems to be switching itself off after around 2 hours of simmering.

Has anyone used this model before to boil for more than a few hours? I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

The user manual says "If the appliance is switched on with inactivity for 2 hours, it will switch off automatically." but surely actively boiling a pot should not count as "inactivity"?

Looks like it's 2 hours interaction. Can you try setting the timer for 180 minutes and see if it gives you an extra hour?
 
Thanks, looks like you're right. It just turned off again, exactly 2 hours after I last adjusted it. I'll try 180 minutes to squeeze 3 hours out of it.

But overall this is truly unbelievable... a commercial-grade hob which can't cook for more than 3 hours straight? It's honestly beyond belief. I'll probably return it.
 
Yes, that's what I'll have to do in the meantime. But this means it's useless for overnight boils. I also use this hob to make stock which should simmer for 48 hours continuously.
 
I think it's just a safety feature (in case someone leaves it on by accident and goes to bed or work) rather than over heating causing it to cut out.

Mines does it, but turn the dial back to zero, then turn it back on to boil and it starts straight away.

I don't think manufacturers would purposely make a hob intended for use unattended .

That aside, it's a cracking piece of kit.
 
Hi We have the earlier version with the dial knob. Used for full on catering and brewing for two years. It delivers and will boil for as long as you want. Brewing, crab claws, reducing or soup. It's our preferred workhorse.
Now i'm worried. Gonna have to buy a back-up,,,
 
I've passed a question on to the manufacturer to see if there's any way to disable this eco-timer. If I find anything I'll reply here.

I very much doubt it's possible, though... perhaps someone who knows more about circuits than I do can come up with a mod to bypass the eco-timer?

Eco-timer or safety measure?
 
It's not related to ventilation or overheating.

The manual says it's for "energy saving". I can't think of any safety-related reason for such a timer anyway, especially on a commercial product. Even my domestic induction hob has a longer switch-off time (5 hours).

Gas hobs don't have an off timer so why should induction?

To be honest I'm extremely surprised this product is even being sold with a 2-hour limit. It makes it practically useless for many commercial uses like stock-making.
