What I can't understand is there is a hate commity waiting for Trump when he lands...a state Leader,regardless of what's thought of him and this country's biggest ally(spelling?)...
Loads of other dodgy leaders get welcomed to the UK on visits...from Africa,China...
 
I agree Clint.

Trump doesn't do himself any favours especially when he lets loose on twitter he really should stop tweeting but obviously wont.

I prefer broadening. But the big stuff is still done with BBC. And being a space nerd (currently studying Physics, Astronomy and Planetary Sciences) I have to watch Prof BC.

I paid the fee with love back in the days when I worked and lived in London SE. Still half the price of public broadcasts in the Netherlands, and double the quality.
We have no fees, 1.1 procentpoint of the taxes we pay in the lowest segment of the income tax.
 
I don't watch the BBC though i do pay my licence fee, purely due to a cowardly fear of being targeted: simpler to pay. But my objection to the BBC seems to be the opposite of most people posting here: i think the last 40 years have been a disaster for this country and I support the current labour party in all its works. The BBC, castrated by new Labour (remember David Kelly's suicide and what led up to it?) then staffed at the highest levels by Cameron at al with tories, is a part of the problem.

However, that is not why I'm posting this - you guys all have your perfectly legitimate opinions and every right to post them.

The reason I'm posting is this: since I took an interest in brewing beer, I've signed up to two beer forums and browsed thru lots more. And what i think I can truthfully say is that when most members of a beer forum posts a political opinion, it is nearly always right wing. Thatcher loving, Corbyn hating, Pro-brexit, climate-change-is-a-hoax-by-all-the-worlds-scientists-including-NASA-who-are-lying, Trump loving etc.

Now, I wouldn't want to argue on a beer forum about whether the world is warming or not. My question simply is (which I'm struggling to understand - and I'm in my late '60's with a paid off mortgage and ample pension etc, so classic Farage recruiting ground) - WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN BREWING BEER AS A HOBBY AND BEING RIGHT WING?

I think it's more to do with age rather than brewing. A lot of homebrewers are middle aged or older (particularly here) and people tend to pull to the right as they age. The right wingers on this forum tend to be very loud too, but there are a good few of us on the left too.

I do think this meme that Corbyn supporters push that the BBC is somehow a nest of viperous Tory's is particularly hilarious. Delusional, almost.

As an outsider who comes firmly from the 'a plague on all your houses' spectrum of politics, the BBC's bias is fairly obvious, but to describe it as Tory is farcical.
 
It seems to be the norm that whatever your political views you seem to think that the BBC supports the other lot.

Based on my voting record I would appear to be a left winger but there again I'm a homebrewer so I guess I'm a f*****g FASCIST.

Or neither. I ignore all politics and give my vote to my wife who is a nurse with the NHS. As a man of science, I don't give a **** about politics, waste of energy.
 
As far as politics go, I often feel very much alone on the Forum, in not "virtue signalling" a leftist viewpoint.

This is probably because I have noticed a constant left-wards drift throughout my life. The values and aspirations my Grandparents (Glasgow - Clydeside) had were around equality of opportunities irrespective of background or other non-optional factors. These were the founding principles of the Labour movement and, like most teenagers, appealed to me at the time I was a teenager. Had the Labour party remained the same, they might still be relevant to me now.

However, it does seem to me that equality of opportunity has gradually been overtaken by the notion of equality by outcomes, which just means that everyone should be, have and believe the same.

This form of ideology has been tried several times, on real live human beings. Except, of course, for the usual 1% who are leading the cultural change.

All these experiments have ended tragically for the 99% victims. Soviet Union (lots of counties under that Empire), Cuba, China, North Korea, Venezuela, come on lefties, give me one single counter-example?

But, hey-ho, next time it may all be different, but I really dread the thought of the communism that the current Labour regime represents.

That's strange. As @nottsbl commented almost all political comments I see from forum members have a right wing slant, and moreover seem to assume general agreement from other members. Any mention of brexit, climate change, immigration, feminism, and many other topics seem guaranteed to bring out the usual reactionary comments.

As for the BBC I think many people's perception of its bias really means "it doesn't push my views, therefore it's biased". I've seen the BBC referred to many times as the British Brexit Corporation (or alternatively the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation), so in some peoples' minds it has a pro Brexit bias. Clearly to other it's nothing but a remain propagandist outlet. The fact that different sets of people have such opposite perceptions of the BBC again suggests that it's largely in the eye of the beholder, and lack of bias is taken to mean it's supporting the "other side", whichever that it. When I watch BBC TV news it doesn't strike me as having any different a political stance from Channel 4 or ITV news. That's not really surprising as they're all subject to Ofcom regulation so tend to try to toe a fairly careful line in terms of expressing opinions.

How weird. All the words are comprehensible and yet there is no sense of compatibility with any actual reality I can recognise.
