Hi,

So my first real big balls up of brewing so far, probably not my last. As the title states I've managed to freeze my corny keg with a Chocolate Milk Stout inside aheadbutt I had been given a fridge for free and was chuffed to bits and my beer had been tasting better than ever over the past few days serving from keg and then I must have left the door open or had it set too low :(

My question is: How likely will this result in having to drain pour the beer?

I've read a few threads and IPA's etc. have generally come out fine once thawed and
re-carbonated. How likely is that to be the case with a Chocolate Stout though? Anybody made the same stupid mistake with a stout?

I'm currently at work so will hopefully be thawed by time I get back tonight and I guess we'll see.

Any advice appreciated.

As above, it'll be perfectly fine. You could have freeze concentrated it while partially frozen to create a new style, an eisstout athumb..

Haha the thought had actually crossed my mind, when I was reading other forum threads I came across freeze concentration but by then I was already on the way to work and also still fairly new to brewing. Maybe the next time I balls up like this :)

Thank you both for the reassurance, fingers crossed!

Don't drink it while it is frozen as 2 pints and you'll be wanting to fight the world. Once accidentally froze some lager for the wife and of course it pulled quite a few pints as it had a iceberg in the middle, she was with the fairies that night after 3 pints and I only found out the next day when I opened the keg to see the iceberg inside. Just let it defrost it will be the best crash cool you'll ever have and it will come out crystal when defrosted and be fine

Well gents or gentesses I can gladly say you were right! It was pretty dire tasting for nearly a week, blew my head off but after that it was totally fine!

Bottled a few and they've held their carb so think I will age a couple as well. Thanks to brewer's friend for the bottling trick from an old bottling wand. The freeze hasn't seemed to affect the body or flavour and the longer it stands the better it's getting.

Thanks once again :)
