I had a DJ of dandelion, which was mostly clear, but wanted it crystal, so added some Young's finings (Bentonite). It's gone all hazy, and after over a week, no change. I'm going to try filtering it today, but not hopeful that will make much difference. Has anyone had this happen, or any suggestions? Thanks

A) Did you follow the Instructions and B) Were the Finings in Date?

If they were in date and you added Sachet "A" then Sachet "B" as per the instructions then it should have cleared. If you only added one of the Sachets then ... ? Dunno 'cos I've always added both Sachets and Ditto out of date.

Personally, I use "Kwik-Clear" and I've had only had to use them twice to clear a wine. (But many years ago my brother had an Orange Wine that refused to clear after nearly a year on the shelf. I did something totally illegal with it and that cleared it!)

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Dutto. I've had second thoughts and added some Pectolase, will leave for 3-4 days and see what happens. The finings were Young's Bentonite powder, rather than the sachets, but I will try using them in future - or Kwik Clear.

Interesting...the Pectolase made no difference, so in a moment of 'oh what the hell' I threw in the remains of a packet of Vin Clear and shook it all up. 24 hours later it's back to 'mostly clear'. Think I'll stick with it at that.

Get some kwik clear or youngs clear it they are both the best and fastest finings I have used.

Totally agree with the Kwik Clear....:hat:clapaclapa Best finings I have ever used.....however I find that there are times I have had to fine twice to get a perfect result. Never give up - it WILL always clear.

I always used 2ml and never had a problem.

Finings - Kwik Clear Wine & Beer (Treats Up To 270 Litres)

Instructions: Add 1-2ml of Finings A per 4.5L of wine and stir well. Leave for 30 minutes. Add 1-2ml of Finings B per 4.5L of wine and stir well.

The Vin Clear worked after just a few days, now bottled up and on drinking it's fine. Wouldn't rush to buy the kit again, but it's a pleasant quaff. I'll get some Kwik Clear in though, thanks for the info.

I've got a very cloudy demijohn of rhubarb, sultana and ginger wine that has finished bubbling. Should I rack off then use kwick clear or use the Kwick clear before I rack off?

If you are sure its finished with an sg around 0.99 to 0.95 for a fairly dry wine then rack off the lees FIRST trying not to bring any of the yeast with it. Then I usually use potassium sorbate to stabilise with a little pot metabisulphate [ campden tablet ] -I find that a little bentonite always helps. Then after a good stir leave for at least 24 hours and then use Quik Clear. There are those who say - just leave it-BUT I am perhaps a little impatient:laugh8: but find this this method gets it clear and I dont have the space to have multiple gallons clearing around the house.

Actually its stabilising , stopping yeast production & getting some of the rubbish causing the cloudiness to drop out. Makes the actual fining with Qwik Clear faster.wink...
