Hey all

I’m new to the forum because I wanted to find out more about corny setups. I finally bought 2 corny kegs and want to make a kegerator, having used plastic king kegs for years, but due to a house move have nowhere cool to store them anymore.

Anyway, I’m looking at my options for gas and am struggling to find anything local (Bromsgrove, Worcestershire), but I found these for ‘aquariums’ on eBay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/14323200...89341c416c0a4e90862836bffcbad24&ul_noapp=true

Would these be any good?

There website says food grade https://yorkshire-co2gas.co.uk/ the ebay listing is for a refill only its £65 for a full full size cylinder (6.35Kg) or £55 for half size. They claim you can get the cylinder refilled anywhere but its rare for anyone to fill a cylinder that isn't theres. Price is OK but not great.

Perhaps try and see if you have an adamsgas.co.uk seller near you. They sell dispense gas which pubs use, I get food grade co2 from my nearest stockist

thats ******** really. co2 is co2.

Beware of fire extinguishes and other cylinder filled with low grade industrial Co2 if you're using the gas for carbonating any drinks eg. beers, lagers, wines your cylinder label must say 'E290' and '1013' if your label doesn't state this or there is no label DO NOT USE FOR DRINKS. cylinder is only suitable for welding or non food use

I just dug out an email I had from them, but about a year ago.

“For home use we sell you the bottle full for £60 inc vat and then every time you bring it back for a refill it would be £24 inc vat”

Hope it works out for you.
Cheers

There doesn’t appear to be a standard rate across the country. I think you have to take whatever you can find, especially if you want local. We may all have to move to Grimlestbottom under the Rye to get the best deals.

I seam to remember that my bottle is 10kg. It’s still much cheaper than the S30 250gm bottles at £8 each that I was using.

I think as a home brewer you have you just take the best deal you can find. Bulk CO2 costs next to nothing so your mainly paying for filling, delivery and the cylinder, I pay £9+vat no deposit or rental but its mainly because they deliver to a pub 20 meters away every week and they would not supply me if I was a home brewer as they don't want customers that will take 6-12+ months to go through a cylinder and could move house before they get it back.

Hello TerryHu, I live just down the road from you in Redditch I think that BOC on Park Farm ind est in Redditch sell food grade co2 in all sizes.
Just a matter of interest where do you get your home brew stuff from, somewhere local?
Cheers.

For what it is worth, I just got a 10 litre bottle yesterday (which was then filled with 6kg of liquid co2) for £110 Inc vat - refills are £10 Inc vat - this was a place out in Great Yarmouth. To give a balance of what you can get elsewhere - that was the only place I could find near me that would sell the bottles and not rent them. Would be nice it it were cheaper, but just pleased that it isn't too far to go and they were great guys!

Hey Martin
Thanks, I’ll check them out. I used to use deejay in Rubery for ingredients, but I find better variety online nowadays at maltmiller or brewuk for not much more cost (it’s mainly delivery that makes it expensive, but I don’t mind paying extra to get some different hops now and then, etc.)
