Yep, pitched some mangrove jacks yeast into a Ritchies brown ale this morning. Nine hours later, had to a gallon off it and the head is super, super erupting :c Looks like this one is lost to the annals of time :/
 
acheers.:beer1:I use the wilko gervin mainly because I have no temp control, it is abit of a beast, hope you can save your brew, I have a vision in my head of the heads of the liver birds sticking out through the krausen
 
I emptied about a gallon and a half from the FV to cope with that Mount Etna of a Krausen. It seems to be at critical mass right now, and does not look to be troubling me further. Real pain having to get up and check on it each hour. Was so bad I thought I was going to have to bin it. Still, not happy at that amount of waste of ale. And haha Rod!! More like the Ritchies Brown Ale Phoenix!! xD And aye, temp when pitched was 26 C, damn thing is back up to 28 C >< grr. Should be about 5% abv when done tho. Next time, it's Kveik yeast ;)

Couldn't you just have scooped some of the Krausen off ?
 
Hi Arcs yep it's a bit lively when pitched at the top end of it's range one reason I have not tried any stouts, just pb'd 15 liters of dark mild only 4.2% should be good round the barby, I had a trip to love brewing a couple of weeks ago for a 25kg sack of maris otter none in stock
 
I tried a different yeast from Mangroves for the porter I am currently doing. It's totally on its best behaviour, pitched at a similar temp. Go figure.. lol
 
Sounds good, but does it cope with eruptions? I think what's happening is that the Krausen is filling up the airlock then the Co2 has no where else to go but take off the lid :S
 
Aha! Thanks for info, that's good stuff. Although I am still thinking of going kveik during summer and getting a bigger FV to cope. I will look at that though.
 
If you have any antifoam
in your brewing kit you could try that, I have read it can be used to help keep the initial vigorous fermentation from foaming over the vessel.
 
You know, this is what I love about this forum and hobby. There is always something new and much away from the initial learning process of what to do and what not to do, cheers, thanks very much Pete21.
 
A good way to control a foaming boil is to spray it with a star san solution. Water might work also. The same trick might be useful for a fermenting beer. Never tried it myself, but could be an option?
 
Hmmmm, many opinions here. I guess I will try them to see which efficiency works best on these solutions. Thanks Slid.
