So got my brewkit from Wilko’s and it doesn’t come with Sugar! Obviously I have some in my house but was going to get some Brewing Sugar. It doesn’t say on the instructions how much I need.....

I’m making 20 x pints of Woodfords Wherry if anyone can help athumb..

Just had a look at the instructions and there is no mention of sugar, so most likely not meant to have any. Personally, as it's a first kit, just stick to the instructions. See how things work etc and then maybe considering adding something next time round. 20 pints is what 11.5 litres? So if you are adamant on adding some brewing sugar, maybe 250g of it, or go 50/50 with some brewing sugar and spray malt.

The 1.5kg can of Wherry hopped extract you have if made up to 11.5 litres will produce a beer with an OG of about 1.038 and an ABV of just under 4%. If you fancy something stronger, weigh out up to 200g Golden Syrup and add that which produce an OG of up to about 1.045/ABV up to about 4.5%. I would not tinker with it any more than that since its your first brew.

If you transfer to a pressure barrel add ~40g of sugar
You'd need to add the full amount you'd use to fill the barrel or it would only be half carbonated because you also need to pressurise the empty space. Actually a bit more to account for not having the residual carbonation in the empty half.

Personally I would avoid putting 11 litres of beer into a 25 litre PB unless I had some means of purging out the majority of the air. However in this case that may be a little academic because the OP has got a set of PET bottles in the brewkit package he bought which I assume he will use.
