My riggwelter clone has been in the fv for 3 weeks whilst I was on holiday and I've come back to this?
Istr that this is a harmless infection, but I can't find the thread on it now.

Can somebody please advise?

Looks like a pellicle, likely from a contamination. As to cause/type, it is hard to give a definitive answer. It'll be safe to drink (as long as it has fermented out, so there is alcohol in there), but whether it is drinkable is entirely another matter. Give it a taste, you might have something interesting.

I agree with Sadfield. it looks like a pellicle infection.

What you could try is racking the beer from below the pellicle and leaving it in the fv. I did this with my one and only infection (pellicle too) and the beer was fine

Took a taste sample and it looked ok, tasted pretty good for a dark beer that's so raw and had an FG of 1.010 which is bang on target.
Got it bottled and let's see how it turns out
As this is my first pellicle I have to admit being a little nervous I'll get ebola/gangrene/necrotising zombie bugs.... But I'm sure it'll be fine.

Edited to add - before becoming a teacher, my wife was a very senior food technologist with some of the biggest suppliers in the UK. Soon as I showed it to her this evening , she exclaimed "that's a lactobacillus pellicle!" And went on to give me chapter and verse on its various chemical processes in wort.
Who knew she did so much microbiology!!! She even dug out an old textbook she used when doing brewed speciality vinegars for waitrose
Now I know this, I'll consult the swmbo before asking on here.

Unless I start brewing prosecco, she has no interest.
I only brew stuff I want to drink, so sorry guys we're dipping out.
Mrsnicks90 is always on hand if you ask me to ask her though.
