Hi Everyone,

I recently brewed a batch of the St Peter's Ruby Red Ale kit.
It's reaching the end of it's conditioning cycle.
My only deviation from the kit was to use S-O4 yeast instead of the supplied yeast.
When i bottled it up it tasted okay if a little bland.
I haven't tasted a bottle yet (probably will do at weekend).
The colour of the beer isn't what i expected though.
It's probably more akin to a brown ale than a Ruby.
Could this be because of the yeast, or maybe the warm weather (I don't have a fridge so my been conditions at whatever the temperature is in the shady part of my kitchen)? Should i be particularly worried?
I've seen other posts about this kit on the forum and it always seems to look very red.

Hi,
I’m fairly new to brewing but done the Ruby red twice now.

Both mine have come out similar to yours, but leave them in the bottle for a good month (or more) and it will clear and turn more of a red colour.

Trust me it’s a great tasting beer

I had a strange experience with this kit. It certainly wasn't very red at all, and had a very bland taste; with an aftertaste a bit like water.

In fact it was the same colour as the previous IPA kit I did from them, I was wondering if maybe a batch got mis-labelled or mis-boxed.

The only thing I can think that caused this was I remember I didn't rinse out one of the tins thoroughly; I clean forgot to do so, so there will have been some extract left behind.

It's certainly not an age problem - I've had it on keg for months now (looking forward to reaching the end of it). It did improve a little towards the end.

St Peter's kits can be a little touch and go to be honest. The stout is known for its rep, but the honey porter is rather meh to say the least. Hope it turns out well ;)

Thought I'd provide an update on this.
Colour hasn't really changed; it looks sort of red if you hold it up to the light.
Is a pretty nice beer to drink actually, not much too it though.
