I've just made up my second batch of this beer, but due to time constraints (going away on holiday) I've bunged the hops in straightaway, rather than waiting for 5 days - will I regret it ?

Only if you forget to take them out again and you have to strain them out between your teeth.
Done that plenty of times in my teens/early twenties.

I'll be syphoning using a big bore syphon with a straining bag over the end that's going into the barrel...so shouldn't be a problem.
