Cheers for the input folks, I'll start with paper on the day and see where I end up afterwards :)

I used to just write in a rich text file then realised I'd forget bits if I tried to remember it all later, especially if I got drunk so I've got a book I write in as I go and I also write it up in BeerSmith and an rtf file. I'd now say the paper version is the most important one on brewday. I leave a page or two for tasting notes and what I think I've learned from it.

This is my HLME brew sheet but it would cover kits as well,,, developed over a number of years,,,, Ignore the HMRC stuff on side 2 unless you want to get serious:rolleyes: any comments or improvements welcome!

I put new recipes into brewers friend and write the notes in the Docs app on my phone.

Saves having to find a pen and paper, and I always have my phone on me.

Everything gets recorded in Beersmith, however... the list was getting ridiculously long so I just recently deleted a large number of brews that I know I'll never revisit. They served their purpose and in many cases contributed to the refinement of most current versions of recipes so the older versions are obsolete anyway. Others, were just styles that I didn't particularly like and for that reason alone I would never revisit so they got deleted too!

Recipes stored on the Grainfather site (dislike the new interface though), inventory spreadsheet in excel which also has my planned brews and past brews recorded just as an ingredient list. Then I have a small general purpose notebook which I'll note down the recipe in for weighing grains and expected gravities and volumes and will make notes on the day of how things compared. Finally, I have a A4 hardback notebook which I record everything in as a full log with tasting notes for the future. I could probably do without the log book, but I like handwriting things as I enjoy finding any excuse to use my fountain pens more, also without it I'd have to record more information on the GF site which I don't like using except as a recipe builder.
