Hello old friends, I am just wondering what's a safe time frame for holding yeast harvested from an FV? A week? 9 days? I don't wanna see this yeast go to waste. Cheers ;)

OK, so here is what I do if I plan to get more than one brew from a yeast.

After 2 weeks in primary, I rack to secondary FV. Try to leave a bit of beer on the trub. Give first FV a swirl and chuck the residue into a plastic 2L jug (Wilko?) and thence pour it into small 250ml PET bottles (if such are still available in the post Attenborough age), via funnel. Maybe you get four, maybe six little bottles. These keep in a normal fridge for several weeks. Maybe 3-4 months. Yeast keeps working away even at 3C and you need to be careful with the older bottles when you open them.

Goes without saying that everything that comes into contact with the yeast residue has to be sterile.

Cheers, didn't want that MJ yeast I bought going to the toilet/compost heap. Ofc some of it will but there ya go. If you are interested Slid. There's a new vid on youtube by this guy Bearded and Bored who made a beer from just groceries. Interesting stuff with a good out come. Link here :
