Peter Fonda, star of Easy Rider, dies aged 79

Peter Fonda, the star, co-writer and producer of the 1969 cult classic Easy Rider, has died at the age of 79.

In a statement, his family said he suffered respiratory failure due to lung cancer, and died peacefully at home in Los Angeles.

His older sister Jane Fonda added: "I am very sad. He was my sweet-hearted baby brother. The talker of the family.

"I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days. He went out laughing."

Well, I'm surprised that no-one has responded to this, Chippy.
Looking back, I guess that Easy Rider is far from the best film of all time. But I was a first-year student at Bangor, N Wales in 1969 and that film had a huge impact upon me. It still does, beyond any logic. It helped, along with so many things: developing styles of music, Vietnam, the threat of nuclear annihilation, to define my psyche in my late teens/early twenties. I haven't changed much since.
I'm glad that I grew up in the '60s, and I'm sad that another figure from that era is gone.
