Hi all, just a quick thought on using breakfast cereals in beer. I've been using bog standard quick porridge oats in my recipes for a while now and have started using shredded wheat as a replacement for torrified wheat, i've found hardly any difference between the two. Any other recipe additions ?
Honey nut stouty Bix anyone?

I've used cornflakes in a light lager and speedicook/porridge oats in a variety of other beers from IPAs to stouts.
That reminds me that I have a Kilo of flaked barley from H&B that I must get used up.:cheers2:

Hi, I use porridge oats in small amounts and am going to try shredded wheat soon, I am very interested in this train of thought acheers.

Cheers chippy tea, have actually got mornflakes from your last link in the cupboard and used them for my last brew, seemed to work well. I biab so have no issues with stuck sparges. Will post a pic of my neipa which had shredded wheat in as soon as I've got it kegged and ready.

I did one 18l partial mash brew which had 475g cornflakes as a trial substitute for flaked maize. It definitely had a slight yellow colour to it, and tasted a little of cornflakes. So I wouldnt use them again.

I did a "Brexfast" beer that had toast, Shreddies, corn flakes, shredded wheat, rice crispies and a few other things in it - as long as it wasn't in a continental breakfast it could go in, hence Brexfast. It was fine. Turned out a bit lagery and you'd never really know it had any of those things in it.

Hi Richard
Did you use the same weight of shredded wheat as the recipe said for torrified?
... yeah, when I've used Shredded Wheat it seems to have given the same extract as the same weight of Torry would have wink...

FWIW (and I know this isn't a breakfast item, but) popping corn, popped in the microwave (without oil) seems to give the same extract as flaked corn, also :?:

Cheers, PhilB

I went on a brew tour to 7 Brothers Brewery in Eccles. They are close to Kellogs in Trafford Park and use broken Corn Flakes in a beer we tasted. It was very good but not sure what % they used.

Here's the neipa, came out beautiful. Massive pineapple notes and as smooth as a button.

There's a video online somewhere of an american chap who used count dracula (wheetos) in a stout!

Guys, when you brewed with wheat. shredded wheat or oats - have you notice difference or improvements? I brewed on few occasions with porridge, around 250g for 4.5kg of grain - still don't have great head retention.
