Harvested some of mine, cascade (52g) and fuggle (27g). Fuggle wasn't as plentiful as cascade, still got some cones on plants, as smaller than other. This is first year and as said bit more to come hopefully in few days.
Not really money saving exercise but just for fun.
What do you do with plants after harvest? Cut it down ??
Yes, cut it right down and mark where it was for next spring.

The advice I received was to leave the bines intact until all the leaves have died and the plant has drawn back the 'goodness' into the root system ready for next year. Then you can cut everything back to just above ground level. Apparently this is especially important in the first two years or so whilst the plant establishes itself.

Still can't decide if mine are ready for harvest yet - last year I was way too early. Watched the video someone posted earlier and I think mine are still a bit green though they are rustly now when you handle them.

For a new plant leave them up for a few months. Will help get nutrients into the rhizome for next year.

Saw this beasty yesterday. Shield bug I think. Anyone know if they do any damage? I just moved it off.

Also a beautiful Chinook come. Not quite ready.

YAY!

One happy moment was that my Prima Donna has produced a hop flower!! clapa clapa

No kidding! After spending £15 for the rhizome, £5 on fertiliser and about £15 on insecticide, fungicide and other plant related chemicals I have a single hop flower!!!

Here's the proof that three years of effort and over thirty quids worth of expenditure wasn't wasted!!

Remember those "Spot the Ball" competitions? SWMBO took the best part of twenty minutes to find the single flower! :laugh8:

All I need is another thirty or so flowers and I will include them in a brew! aheadbutt aheadbutt

Haven't harvested mine yet but it won't be many more days. I've got three: the cascade's doing ok. centennial's the best of the lot and challenger disappointing. Don't expect much more yield than last year, which was their first, But it's been a funny year ere darn sarf.

Harvested mine today. 135g pre dried weight which I'm happy with from 3 bines off 1 plant. The burrs only appeared early August but loads of growth in the past few weeks. Plenty of mustard yellow lupulin and amazing smell. Have got them in Tupperware containers over silica gel drying out.

Harvested mine this week.
My 2 year old prima donna has yielded 150g (dried) and 2 3 year old cascades will have yielded about twice that in total when they've dried.
As others have said - it would have been a lot cheaper and easier just to buy them packaged already.

I managed to get 102g of dried cascade from my year 1 plant.
I think I picked them too early last Sunday (the stragglers left on the bine are now smelling a bit more pungent).
Has anyone got an idea of a ballpark AA for recipe building or should I just cram the lot in at flameout?

Found some wild hops whilst at work yesterday. Picked a load for about 20 mins. They’re now in the airing cupboard. They smell really dark, like a fuggle or Target. So very promising. I’ll freeze them and probably brew them in the new year

Last year I used all my hops as flameout additions so their actual AA content is less important. Otherwise you've just got to do trial and error'
