Does anyone know of a reasonable source for White Labs WLP775 cider yeast here in the UK. Almost everywhere I try is out of stock with no idea if they will restock. I did find one place that stocked it at £6.75 which is not a bad price, but £6.95 postage for a small pouch is just unacceptable. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

I was going to try cultivating some recovered yeast from Westons Old Rosie but as they now pasturise and hot fill the bottles leaving only dead yeast, then thats a non starter (no pun intended).

Time to consider a different yeast?
I've never used an actual cider yeast when making cider. The last batch I did was with S-189 at 12c. It turned out pretty good, but was the first and only time I got sulfur smell with this yeast. I've never used it in cider but Wyeast 1450 is supposed to make a nice cider.

From what I have read and watched on Youtube a proper cider yeast can make a lot of difference. I am trying a sachet of Harris cider yeast in a 5 ltr batch at the moment and it seems quite active. Others such as CML and Mangrove Jacks have been recommended so there are options.

Your right, thats where I saw it. It's the £6.95 postage I was not happy about. It's anly a small sachet and a large letter only costs £1.01 to send. It's not I can't afford it, it's the principle.
If you contact Shane and THBC and state that's all your looking he'll let you know if there's anything they can do.

Young's cider yeast is the one I go for. It's cheap and easily available and it leaves the cider crisp and clean and fizzy. Saccharomyces Bayanus is the strain, I understand.
