Hey.
I’ve tried an extract stout and it was rubbish. Now to try an AG one now I think I’ve got the BIAB process sorted.
How’s this look?
23l
SG: 1.050
FG: 1.015
4.63% abv
68.8 EBC
30.5 IBU

4kg/80% Maris otter
300g/6% rolled oats
300g/6% chocolate malt 1000EBC
200g/4% roasted barley 1300EBC
100g/2% wheat malt
100g/2% carapils

60min mash at 68*C, mash out at 78
EKG at 60 min, 60 min boil.
Rehydrated S-04

So, will this work? Should I add some crystal, caramalt or rye? Add some Magnum for bittering?
Chilli, coco powder, cinnamon, coffee??
Can you tell I have much more time to think about brewing than I have actual brew-time?

Help!

Looks a nice recipe to me. I wouldn’t add any extra flavourings. I’d brew the stout straight and see if you like it, then tweak it for next time! I wouldn’t worry too much about which hop you use if it’s only a 60 minute addition, just get the bitterness you need from whatever hop.

Can you tell I have much more time to think about brewing than I have actual brew-time?!

This is me too!

Thanks for the feedback AJ.
It’s no good, can’t stop myself from tinkering- I’m going to toast the oats and also add some cold-steeped coffee to the secondary. Monsooned Malabar AA coffee in fact. Supposed to have a smoked aroma!
