I’m firing up my 50l Brew Devil for the first time on Saturday and want to give it a good clean before hand.

I’m just wondering what everyone uses to clean their systems with? I’ve got some Chemi Pro caustic which is caustic soda and active chlorine but I’m not sure if this is suitable for cleaning it?

I wanted to get some PBW but unfortunately my LHBS is currently out of stock so what other options do I have or is the caustic soda fine?

I run VWP through mine, set it to heat up to about 90°c for twenty minutes and run the recirc pump to keep everything moving.

As it heats up, I'll use a sponge to wipe down the sides.

I then rinse it through with clean water afterwards (incl the pump and recirc/whirlpool pipes) then I'll either get a brew on, or dry it with a cloth and leave it upside down on top of a towel if it's getting stored.

Is VWP not chlorine based and therefore not recommended for use on stainless steel?

TSP for getting rid of any oily residue, can you get hold of Bar Keepers friend sometime supermarkets have it.
Cheers, I'll have a look for it in the supermarket tonight. Is it the Bar Keepers Friend power cream or stain remover version that I need and would I just follow the instructions on the bottle for how to use it?

Had a look through the various chemicals I've got in my home brew cupboard and I've found a bottle of sodium metabisulphite, I've had a google trying to work out if it's a sanitiser or a cleaner and can't really get a conclusive answer.

Does anyone on here know if this would be good to clean my Brew Devil and FV's with or should I avoid it?

The powder is stronger, the cream easy to use. I always have both to hand.
