Last night I did a brew. My starting gravity is 1.060 which if it finishes at close to 1.010 will give me a 6.5% beer. I have 21 litres of wort. Many litres would I need to dilute by to have a starting gravity of 1.052 giving me a 5.5% beer. I have tried the calculation but I don't want to mess it up. Or should I just go with the 6.5 %

Consider that your beer might not go down to 1.010 dependant on the yeast you are using and the make up of the wort.

This dilution calc is pretty accurate. I've used it loads during Maxi BIAB Just be aware you'll be diluting your IBU's as well as you OG

Likewise, I've done this using this calculator too, pretty accurate. If the dilution is small then the effect on bitterness isn't that significant.

Also regarding terrym's comment about final gravity - there is also an ABV calculator here:

You can use this to play around and see what the ABV will be if your FG is a few points higher (or lower).

Thanks that's the calculation I was using just wanted a bit of advice from people have used it before. I played safe and added 2 litres of preboiled water. Bringing the og to 1.055 gives me a bit of room if it doesn't finish at 1.010 if it does I should have an ABV of 5.9%
