Evening.
I'm interested in cheap but effective methods to mash apples.
Seen the old blade at the bottom of a bucket. Any alternatives that don't require a blacksmith to fabricate the blade?

I remember a member showing his second hand electric lawn mower masher, messy but effective.

Cheapest and easiest is a lump 0f 4 x 4" timber (Hardwood, not something resinous like pine, or fence posts, for obvious reasons). Drill a couple of holes through it, and insert a couple of lengths of broomstick as handles. Put the apples in a (clean) garden trug - most are foodsafe, Then smash the bejeesus out of them.

Simple but effective...

I've got one of the "blades at the bottom of a bucket" you're welcome to it if you're passing. They work well with small volumes, but it's a real fad to deal with any sort of volume. You also need a press.
The next one up is this: I use one of these until I can find the time to get a proper scratter.
