As we have been discussing smart phones in the other thread i thought it might be interesting to see what apps members regularly use and why mine are a bit boring so i look forward to finding something useful posted by members.

Opera browser (ad blocking and text wrap) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser&gl=GB

Swiftkey keyboard - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&gl=GB

BBC Sport - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.bbc.android.sportdomestic&gl=GB

Met Office - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.gov.metoffice.weather.android&gl=GB

BBC weather - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bbc.mobile.weather&gl=GB

Replaio Radio to stream radio stations while I'm on the train or at work. I used to use Tune In Radio until it started to go wrong right about the time they started stuffing it with ads and other junk. Replaio's one of the few apps I've thought it worth paying for.

Duolingo. I'm trying to learn a foreign language (stop laughing at the back; it's difficult when you get older!)

And all the BBC apps that Chippy's listed above.

Bacon reader
Reddit feeder, good to get rid of adverts

Radio X
Nuff said.

Soundcloud

Google Music

Untappd
Logging of the rare beers, did a challenge in 2016 to see who can log 500 different beers in a year. I did not win. But someone did it in 9 months....

Fiz (time wasting on the train)

Brewfather
On the move offline recipe fiddling is

All BBC apps above. Always use two weather apps and amazed/frustrated how they can be different sometimes.

Sync for Reddit. The best Reddit app.

Whatsapp.

Alcodroid - drinking tracker.

Classic Words Plus - Scrabble.

I use two apps

"Talk to Me" lets you use your phone to talk to family and friends by entering their device's designated number.

"Meet Me At" Allows you to meet friends at a local hostelry by sending a string of alphanumeric characters, including the name of said hostelry and time you wish to meet, to their device's designated number.

I like to keep up with the latest tech...

Not apps realy but what games do people play. I play clash of clans for about 4 years and just getting seriously into guns of glory.

Zello - turns your phone into a push-to-talk intercom over wi-fi or 3G/4G

DarkSky - very localised weather with rain radar

Vesselfinder - identify passing ships

Flightradar24 - identify passing aircraft

LastPass - password manager

Does Replaio have podcasts in it?

For now I use TuneIn, quite a lot recently. Apart from that just browser and bbc weather app. Used to Have Pokemon Go - got bored of that.

Ones I use not yet mentioned:

Brewers Friend for the calculator
Premier League for on the spot Fantasy league tinkering
Trainline for electronic train tickets which can be scanned
Hargreaves Landsdowne for monitoring share portfolio
Podbean for podcasts
Audible for audio-books
Family link to keep tabs on youngest
Natwest - much easier on the App than online banking via your computer
Uber
Justeat
Wetherspoons (although not wholly comfortable with ordering drinks from the table)
Spotify
Philips hue to control smartlights
Samsung multiroom - to control Samsung speakers
Fitbit to monitor sleep
Booking. com to keep track of hotel bookings
My EE - to gift data each month between SWMBO and the kids

Alexa - mainly for shopping losts
Feelfit - which connects to the scales i use to weigh my FVs on brewday!

I Iike the sound of that, how much data does that use if you are not using WiFi?
I guess the same as the broadcast stream, so 128kbps quality will consume that much data. There is a setting to turn off cellular data use though.

I play 2048 a fair amount.

Whilst I've used Chrome as my browser on mobile and desktop for 10 years or so now there is an update coming which will basically disable adblocker so I guess I'll move to Firefox when that happens.

I do the vast majority of my banking through their apps.

Night sky is pretty cool. At night point the phone at the sky and it will tell you the stars etc. you're looking at.

YT Music - can listen to the audio of YouTube videos - great for listening to live gigs without having the video open. It's an official YT app. Also I use Google Play Music.

VLC player is my preferred video player on my phone.

I also use LastPass, everyone should be using a password keeper!

Safari - t’internet

Apple Music - I listen to music to and from work, for doing my evening workouts and checking out the week’s new releases

Facebook - checking out everyone else’s perfect lives

JEFIT - logging my evening workouts

My Fitness Pal - trying to shift the 2 stone I gained stress eating in my old job. Keeps my eating in check.

Brewer’s Friend - for compiling recipes and logging brewdays

Will check this out! YOutube is a great source for audiobooks but having the video running kills the battery.
